Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Delay in layoffs?

Have heard from a reliable source that pending layoffs on the EG side have been postponed for two weeks as the company seeks volunteers first.. Maybe a way to soften the PR backlash...

People would volunteer if they are near retirement. If you are planning to retire in the next year or so, it would be a no brainer to take the severance.

If you're in National Retail you are buttered toast. That job is free money for going shopping and getting home by 2:30.

You think they compiled the MyCoach data and hit the floor? BOOM!

Think before you think suing will make you rich or even more than what you would have gotten with the severance. I don't understand why people think suing means big money.

First, you probably don't have anything to sue about.

Second, litigation takes years

3rd, the only people consistently getting rich and guaranteed is the lawyers.

If you accept the severence package you agree not to sue the company. You forfeit your right to any lawsuit against at&t

Lulz - unless you're a GM/level 3 or above good luck getting someone to even answer a specific question about severance package let alone negotiating it

Lawsuits are an option esp., when layoffs become personal (or apart of the other protected classes) and not about performance in re: to forgoing severance. But I would caution that these lawsuits can come with a scarlet letter of sorts and can taint your name permenantly (typically public knowledge and Internet searchable) So dang sure your case is solid and your settlement/award put you in a good place for long long time. And ur ok with never working in the industry again.

There are better ways. Most people don't know u can negotiate your settlement for more money (that's even on an att website-search for it). Class actions are also an option (lawyers do reap most of the benefits) but this is usually principaled and to make a point and establish national dialogue and raise customer awareness.

You don't lose your severance if you volunteer. All you are doing is preferencing. If selected you're a part of the surplus and receive everything as someone who is going on an involuntary basis.

end of next week as far as timeline.

Who the hell would volunteer to leave and lose your unemployment benefits and perhaps a chance to sue the company for any prejudices regarding your dismissal? Is your severance that spectacular?

So what's the date?

I've seen the timeline. It's not 5/27. That date also doesn't work with a the final day on payroll and 60days.

Or better yet, not surplus you because you are quitting anyway.

Has anyone experienced a surplus with this voluntary option before? How do we know they will not "give the axe" if you submit the form? That would save the company money. This build up to mid May was draining enough, preparing for that horrid day. Now we have to mentally prepare again. All the while we are being told to "not think about it and just do our jobs." We have families!

I am recently hired as a collections Represenative and the center has another class in training. My question is this. If the center is still hiring and spending money to train then my job should be secure correct? I just don't want to worry. We all need our jobs.

It has to happen before the end of the month legally and financially. If it happens June 3rd or something they have to pay insurance beyond a 60 day notice to cover the entire month which would run into August.

It will happen soon don't worry

They want to delay 2 weeks so the news hits late on the Friday before Memorial Day. So there will be a lot less press coverage.

Hahahaha!!! What are they smoking?!? Stick a fork in the AT&T comeback, it's done!!!! Decision making like this shows you why they are completely rudderless and clueless.

yes it was delayed until later in May and the message was (or should have been) delivered to all management employees yesterday. They are offering employees a chance to respond to something they are calling the Interest In Leaving survey where you can self-nominate for surplus and that came out in email from the respective HR leaders. Self nominating doesn't guarantee you'll be selected for surplus though, that decision is ultimately up to the business unit.

So you could reply Yes to the survey but still not be surplussed.
