If the executives don't think that the longer this strike continues the impact on future profits and productivity wont be felt for years they need to think again. Managers don't want to do this work and will look to jump ship to other companys. As soon as possible. Managers have already left the company this past year in anticipation of this and the corporate culture that has been adopted by this company. The union workers will come back eventually and shove it so far up Verizons assthat Lowell will feel it in the back of his throat for years to come. Shareholders will oust him eventually. Public sentiment is against greedy corporations and executives that are grossly overpaid.

Managers won't have to do the work because after the strike VES will get sold of along with VES will go some of the UNION force. The Cloud Data Centers are going up for auction (that is already a done deal) and what is left of FiOS will get shopped around. I suspect Ftr will end up with it and FTR will be VZ's LEC and deals will be made for lease back and cheap back haul to wireless. I would not be surprised if that has not already been negotiated with FTR. What is left of FiOS and Wireline outside of VES will go for pennies on the dollar. VES is the crown jewel for sale that others want.....
No matter how long this strike takes the company is never going to sign a contract with 100% job protection in it and that is not a desirable contract for a future buyer. At the end of the strike all the comments from Union members will be how the Union sold them out....blah...blah...blah....just like the last strike. You are holding out for a worse contract.....I bet if the Union leadership brought the current contact offer to the Union membership it would get voted in favor of going back to work. That is the reason the Union will not put it to a vote because they know it will get the vote will be in favor of getting back to work......it might be a slim margin but there will be enough votes....and you all know it.
Company knows this and doesn't care. They've run all the cost models and have decided it's worth it to win this fight. And win they will as the company has more money than the union and can outlast them no matter how log this goes.
Yes future profits and productivity will be impacted.
The drain on profits will be eased once the union is gone, and replaced with replacements with an appropriate wage and benefits package.
As the replacements will be grateful for their job, they will be motivated to be productive.
