Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

new hires?

I am recently hired as a collections Represenative and the center has another class in training. My question is this. If the center is still hiring and spending money to train then my job should be secure correct? I just don't want to worry. We all need our jobs.

ps, I was unemployed for a little over a year, I really need this job. should I be worried?

I had 21 years with the company and had just spent 4 weeks in training in Chicago. The company spent over $40,000 on my training. Guess what? Yes, I was let go like the drop of a hat. AT&T doesn't care about anyone or anything outside of money. As long as the top brass are making wheelbarrows full of money and bonuses, that is all they need and want.

There is a new contract in effect which you were probably hired under more than likely you might be getting paid less than the older reps. So if anyone leaves in your dept it might be the older reps to save money. You are never safe but i don't see you going anywhere.

Find out if your center is considered a growth center. They have identified which locations they want to use for growth for a number of reasons (tax incentives, performance, etc.). Those would be the safest locations I'm sure.

New AT& T job salaries, Not negotiable, for an array of different positions, no doubt corporte greed, Along with the hollowing out of the middle class, Americans are generally making less money than they did in 2000. The median income of U.S. households in 2014 was $62,482 compared with $67,673 in 2000. Earnings for all groups -- low income, middle class and upper income -- suffered during that time.

Yes, you should be worried. AT&T is so big, it's not unlikely for one group to be hiring without knowing lay-offs are coming. They may have had their hiring budget approved before deciding on lay-offs. Keep looking and the worst case scenario is you have a jump on it if you do get laid off.

Lol, overseas collections. "I didn't pay the bill because I couldn't understand the foreign guy telling me what I was supposed to pay."

Disagree, be worried, these typically go overseas

A new hire class does not indicate security in a company the size of AT&T. Let's just put that to rest.

You are in a growth area, though.

Collections? It'll probably be one of the few growth parts of the business.

I say this because I believe a recession is looming.
