More like wireline is that trusty old boiler.. She keeps making heat every winter, everyone is happy, until old man Lowell took over.
Old man Lowell looks at this big old boiler and says I am not putting money into it..The house across the street has the new fancy system with digital controls, takes up less space.
One day Lowell talks to the heating tech that he always sees parked outside that house. heating guy says this new boiler gives us so many problems that I will have work for ever.. You see, they dont make em like they used too.. If I had your boiler I would never get rid of it.

My dad is in the heating business and he tells me a well maintained boiler from the early 1900s will last another 100 years and provide nice comfortable heat.. The trick is maintain.. When you have the cheap owners who try to get by with little to no maintenance thats when the old boilers suffer.. and then those same cheap bastards have the nerve to blame the old boiler!
So thats what we have here.. The old copper network that served us well.. For 100 years it was the marvel of the world, it gave us an advantage in this country.. Now all of a sudden its no good? Just like that??

They just sold a piece of the car for billions. The northeast landline is worth a lot more then that. Why is it when we talk wireless and wireline the facts are ignored. The debt that is put on wireline from the wireless side is amense. You are seeing the leveling off on the wireless side already. Customers are complaining and leaving and the company response, they are isolated incidents. This place will gone down and all the executives will walk away will millions saying, my bad.
I've got a car that is fairly new. I put a good bit into maintenance because it is valuable enough to keep repaired. I also have an old POS that we only keep because we can't sell it for more than the slight value having a backup vehicle give us. The only maintenance I do on that is keeping air in the tires and the very rare oil change. If something breaks on it that will cost more than a couple of hundred to fix I'll shoot it in the engine block and end it's pain. Wireline is that old beat up POS. But, if we pretty it up but removing the union maybe, just maybe it will be worth enough to someone for us to sell it off.
You know what would be for the good of the company? Maintain the plant that you own. It's called responsibility of ownership.
The union employees are a thing of the past. They gone, and it was their decision to leave.

Yes, he's made this very clear to employees. If it takes $1 billion or more, he is prepared to do that. For the overall long-term good of the company, I suspect it is a wise investment. Perhaps it is even a tax deduction to boot.
