Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

We're pissing in the wind. Only Techs with repair and FIOS actually Pull the weight. The talk of moving techs to other areas means moving C techs who sit on their assall day and do nothing to Repair and FIOS. I know it happened to me. C techs I know cant look me in the eye because they know this. You want to loose sleep, realize:

C work isn't being done or missed

Placing isn't being done or missed

Thats more than half the tech folks

screw the union and it's leaders! I'm crossing tomorrow morning.

Simply put, the Union is damned either way. The older die hard Union guys (you know, the ones who are going to "beat" everyone up who crosses their line.) will all be gone in a few years leaving the next generation, who sees no future at Verizon, to lead the way. This next generation will also leave in droves over the next few years and the rest will just ride this sinking ship (wireline) into the abyss. So what's the point in having a Union?

I agree with the sentiment that the union uppers seem to care only for the union and themselves... They are putting everyone on strike at risk - financially, emotionally, family wise, etc. For what? Oh yeah, so they can try and save the union and their numbers because that equals dues...I don't see them going on strike, too! They should go without pay, too. This "stay strong" and rah, rah, rah stuff only carries for so long and it has run its course. Let's see some results and get everyone back to work!Time to get real as this is about everyone's livelihood and the climate being what it is the offer is pretty good. Vote or cross because it's clear that Verizon has been preparing for this for a long time...it's not yesteryear where companies didn't have options, etc. The offer is comparably fair and everyone has to budge... How about some transparency?

I'm sick of both sides. Been around unions my entire life. Dad union...grandfather union. Sad it looks like I won't get to retire a proud union working fella. But at this point I don't even care anymore. I'll never cross and will ride out the strike "check" till its depleted. But I'm beaten down...health care canceled, life insurance canceled, looks like I'll incur ACA tax penalty, lost wages, list goes on and on. And yeah, I've been through strikes before. Vividly remember them as child. The plight of working fella has been in the sh--ter for years...depressing I get to live it first hand.

Union leadership decided for u to lose your job now

The union has to give a little. How about accept the health care. At this point we lost enough money to pay for the additional fees for a couple of years. The company wants to give insensitives for people to retire. That's nice but if that happens the union will be out those dues. That is a prime example of them protecting themselves. It wrong. Job security it critical. If that is not there then a lot of us lost more than 4 weeks pay. I would love to see the rest of the proposal and make a decision. This cannot go on for months without the union bending. Has anyone heard what concessions the union make?

I am the OP. I will not cross, I still believe in the union... although only up to a certain point. If we don't get a vote or some sort of credible /good info from leadership (don't need no more slogans and pep rallies) before Verizon yanks the offer in 10 days, then I may be forced to consider crossing. I know some brothers will cross with me.

Stay strong for what? You should listen to OP. Play the hand you have been dealt. Time isn't on the unions side. Are the customers feeling the pain of your absence? Oh yeah. Are they annoyed by the install pushout? You bet ya. Are they fed up? A few sure, but most just are annoyed and will stick it out. Hence why the media hasn't really reported about that many pissed off customers. The MSM coverage of the strike is nearly non existent at this point. The shareholders vetoed the unions proposals by enormous margins. Your vzw impact won't be felt until q2 earnings which is in late July. My family member is reporting that her store took a 20% sales impact from your constant picketing last month. Thats notable but you guys aren't picketing most stores. VZ is also saving a ton of money by not paying for you so chances are they will still be able to put out a decent quarterly report even with your picketing. Everyday you don't come back is one day longer they don't have to pay you and one day longer they have to replace you with permanent 'temp' contractors. This is very clearly their intent. They are communicating this clearly to non union employees. What in the world are you staying strong for at this point? You've accomplished all you can with the hand you were dealt.

you can cast your vote by crossing the line. we don't need the union to decide for us.

Sho, maybe you should demand the union shows everyone the entire thing then, give you some time to review it, then vote on it?

Everyone voted to give the unions a blank check to go on strike. Why can't the union actually present an offer then ask if you want to strike?

How about Stay Employed.

I almost agree. They said there were 19 pages we didn't see front the company offer. We only got the 7 best pages in the mail. I do think that all 39000 of us will not be happy but at this point it's time to do what's best for the mast majority. I've never seen it this grim.
