Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VZ in it for the long haul

Lowell visited a call center yesterday and told EWA employees they'll be on assignment until end of June and then continue on a revolving EWA assignment atleast through the Fall of this year. He's not backing down at all.

As someone who sat out 17 weeks in 1989 when there was no relief fund I say buckle up we are in for the long haul if this hits week 7. All you guys ranting at the union meetings to go on strike, well you haven't really been on strike yet. Actually, you are lucky that the relief fund will double your take home pay after week seven. In 1989 that fund didn't exist and without it, the picket lines dissipated. Your 1989 strike begins when the relief fund is depleted. Only then, under a worse economy now, will you appreciate those of us that told you to be careful for what you wish for.

I'm moving on to another job, at this point i can give a sh-- about Lowell or what he does to drive the company into the ground. Have a miserable remainder of your career there.

Management is being phased out. Management companies are already in place and have brought in more personnel to replace them. No real need to bring them back from EWA duty other then short term.

I know some management who came back briefly to do some specific job functions & then went back out to EWA. Don't know of anyone who bailed on their assignment. Union must hate to hear that.

I don't know of a single manager who has returned from EWA. Trust me, management is not folding. Anyone who says differently is living some kind of pipe dream where the union ends up whole when this thing is over.

WHY ARE YOU BEGGING ME TO CROSS????? IF YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT ME.....DO IT ALREADY... WHY ARE YOU CONSTANTLY BEGGING ME TO CROSS?????? YOU SAY YOU BEGGING ME BECAUSE YOU "CARE" ABOUT ME! I SAY YOUR BEGGING ME BECAUSE YOUR FAILING WITHOUT ME.

Blah blah blah, the letter went out last week telling the managers their Ewa's would last until end of June- the reason they are hiring so much is because the managers are folding and are not coming anywhere close to the "business as usual" Nonsense the company is spewing . It's a complete embarrassment that this was the contingency plan for a company of VZ's stature. Jam thousands of out of shape desk jockeys into the field best them down and then hire scabs . Truly a well thought out brilliant plan. Lol

I don't care that the CEO of Verizon makes 18 million a year. Good and God bless him. What gets me is the 16% increase he gets. Hey boss is that a paper cut? How's that golf elbow? These people are clueless of what we do, GREED is a terrible thing!

We're hiring all new contracters and giving them great pay. Training is 1 to 2 weeks depending on the position. I'm not against the union but this time I feel that they are making a bad mistake. Only people not feeling it are those who's cars and homes are paid off and kids are adults now. Younger union folks are going to be in a world of hurt.

"well if he jumped off a bridge would you do it to?"

Seems silly to ask that question but that's how it really is. These people are brought up on the notion that you be loyal to the union at all costs. Which is dumb because the union leaders are not loyal to you at all costs. They want your loyalty but then they use you to further their agenda.

Lowell also mentioned while talking to a lot of the strikers that they don't even know what they're striking for! they just keep regurgitating the same lies their "leaders" feed them. They wont find another job (especially on the east coast) with the pay and compensation package they're already receiving.

Be smart - cross the picket lines, go back to work and provide for your future and your families future before you are replaced. I hate to see innocent people lose their jobs because they're ill informed by blind leadership.

everyone has heard this saying before: "well if he jumped off a bridge would you do it to?".. apparently that answer is yes.

I deal with union employees all the time and I could never understand why someone would wish for their demise. Without the workers we manage, what really is our function here ? I really don't see a long term of managing contractors.

Good. We will stay out as long as it takes

Until the multi billion dollar profitable corporation gives us a FAIR CONTRACT

Treat your workers right

And we'll come back

Yea agreed... If the union goes then Verizon really just continues to ramp up bringing in management companies to manage contractors. No need for Verizon employees to do it.

I thought this strike might last three weeks or a month. Now it seems as though it will last from now on. The company is definitely moving forward as if they don't expect the union back anytime soon if ever.

I can see the company's point of view and the union's as well.

I hope it ends soon but I just don't see it.

I normally am not a union fan, but Ive got to give it to them this time as they are seriously helping out my bank account. So, this is great news. Please "Stay Strong!" through the summer. Did Lowell give specifics of the rotating assignments? Maybe 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off?

Correct Basking Ridge just brought in a bunch of long term Cushman and Wakefield people today and I hear a bunch more will be set up on Saturday. Is this all part of it ?
