I'm a Verizon manager(used to be union many years ago) and check this site once in awhile for any interesting updates. We were notified today to get ready to add approximately 5000 contractors with possibility of full time hire. I'm not sure what the current labor laws are in regards to current associates and if the company can end their employment but I wish crafts would realize what is happening.

Actually uoe they are already here doing the work side by side with many Verizon managers. Verizon is already outsourcing management positions and intends on ramping that up. CW is coming to the end of there present 5 year deal. They are already adding new CW personnel due to the strike. These people are already permanent employees for CW and are being trained and have been trained in low level management positions. CW and possibly JLL can if needed use contract workers in some union positions however I don't see this as the end game. This contract negotiation allows them to add additional personnel to eventually replace managers. Don't for a moment think that CW and JLL aren't already managing CWA workers.....because they are.

Your statement doesn't make sense. Neither Cushman and Wakefield and Jones Lang Lasalle are in a related business nor are they outsourcers. They wouldn't be training anyone for anything.
Open your eyes strikers, Verizon is managing just fine regardless of what you want to believe. Union is selling you out. Get back on the job now before your forced to work 2 or 3 jobs just to make up your income. Letting your family go without medical insurance, having to walk circles during picket duties for pennies, seriously, do you really trust this will work out for you? And for your info, i am the brother of a union worker in PA...i can't believe what I am seeing happening and just don't get why you think this is all good. I have pressed my brother to cross but he has family and cannot afford all the negativity that would come with crossing...but, go ahead, fill your head with fluff, keep believing that you have the company by the balls...

Only in the field and they will have to join the union and the union will have to protect and represent them or the union could be sued. Not ideal, but fact and law.
Are you crazy? So seasoned union workers will work side by side with the scabs,that should be a good time.
The additional workforce being brought in is to replace the management performing an EWA so they can return back to their own job. As they transition out, a second wave is being trained to augment the field work force as replacement workers. The management performing call center functions will be slowly released as this work will be off shored. once the union agrees to the contract offered, call center work will be all off shore, call center people will be offered field assignments in transfer areas or no job, and some replacements workers will become full time in area where the technicians will retire / quit instead of trNsferring.
@dcg I don't think it's crap honestly. I'm not sure all 5000 are just tech and union positions though. I think many of those will be for contractors who are being brought in to replace management positions as well.
You're not going into details because there aren't any! The only workforce they have now are poorly trained managers and bottom of the barrel yahoos from the south.
I know for a fact that many management jobs are looking to be outsourced. So this doesn't surprise me at all.
Network is falling apart. Customers leaving and the company still has no clue.
Said many times but here it is. This place will crash and burn if some of you get your way. Without the union workforce the customer base will disappear. Many areas were forced OT every night before we walked. The time it will take to get up to speed, forget about it. Not to mention the damage to the network.

They did not provide a date yet. I still have many friends in the Union so was trying to be nice and in some strange way felt obligated to share what was communicated.
OP, these poor saps don't understand how they can be replaced. When the Company declares this an Economic Strike they will be replaced. The Unions will respond by filing an ULP and try to get the NLRB to side with them. It will be denied. If you can confirm that 5/20 is the date please let use know so the informed Union people can do an preemptive strike, make their next move and not lose their careers to this losing battle.
I am a union member. Central office tech in Ma. I appreciate the info and I am not sure why fellow brothers and sisters want to discredit you. I also agree if we even go back it will be on the deal company offered at end of April. We are wasting our time and I am actively looking for a new job.

Yea heard this as well but it goes further than this. From my understanding Cushman and Wakefield and Joned LAng LaSalle are being brought in to train as replacements for all aspects of the work spectrum. In a number of facilities they are presently being trained to replace both the unionized and ununionized work force. We have already seen a number of trainees in that are being trained at 1st and 2nd level management tasks.. In some areas of Verizon this has already been in place. I heard that CW has an upcoming contract and Verizon wants them to expand there scope of work for there next contract.
I am current union was formally management. Took my tools back before I was to be RIF'd. I wish management would realize what is happening.

Am I where ? I'm not not on an EWA assignment. I work for IT in the database group, we handle the system access. I like to stay Anonymous so not going in to details...
