Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

$51.12

How can the Vz stock price still be over $50 per share with so many on strike, the terrible job fill ins are doing and the thousands of customers that are supposedly disconnecting daily in outrage? It's almost as if this global company is not really impacted financially by a strike in one region of the US with one set of the many products in the portfolio. Maybe if people sacrifice their life savings taking a stand the stock price will drop to $49 in 6 months. Then again, maybe it will continue to grow. I don't see an upside to a long strike when there's a fair deal on table combined with offer of mediation. Downside is same deal in 6 months with most people financially devastated. Guess it doesn't have to make sense to most people. Best of luck getting what you seek.

Since when is Wall Street intelligent? Greed is blind...

Not sure if anyone has ever checked their 401k accounts here, but you are ALL shareholders. When the company makes more money you make more money! You should be HAPPY the company is profitable because it puts more money in your account. The reason the news isn't reporting on the strike is because 'merica doesn't have any sympathy for people whining about a 30 year cap on pensions when at least 80% don't have pension accounts!

Umm, roughly 69% of the revenue is from Wireless. That's why the stock price is stil over $50

What'd they do? Waste more money buying back shares to keep it inflated?

"Why squander thousands of dollars when this is the deal that will be signed eventually?"

And you know this for a fact...how?

"This strike is not only to get more for members, in theory, but it is also to tap us out, making all of us reliant on the union leadership for the long haul."

What you wrote makes no sense from a sheer financial standpoint. Yes, people are tapping into their "rainy day" funds during the strike, but the union is also depleting its strike funds by millions of dollars with every weeks that passes...

"now that the company has the freedom to pay less, move people here and there, and to not have to pay healthcare, they are saving money. Once the replacements get up to speed and they start installs again, that expense to revenue margin will begin to grow even more and Wall Street will notice that."

Nah. VZ did OK in the Q1, and that's pretty much all that matters. Wall Street doesn't care about the strike, it was against FiOS when Seidenberg first started pushing it out and generally has a mindset of its own which is not going to be severely affected - if at all - by this turn of events. Having said that, there are ways of affecting VZ's stock price but no one seems to have the guts to push in that direction...

The stock price is the reality us Union members are living. We only represent a small small small portion of Verizon's revenue and now that the company has the freedom to pay less, move people here and there, and to not have to pay healthcare, they are saving money. Once the replacements get up to speed and they start installs again, that expense to revenue margin will begin to grow even more and Wall Street will notice that. But the Union leadership would have us believe we have the company in dire straights...

I crossed last week. The locals said to save up overtime, save it for a long strike. Well I did, saved up almost 22k. When the last best offer went out, and it looked fair, and the leadership didn't take it, I crossed. Why squander thousands of dollars when this is the deal that will be signed eventually? This strike is not only to get more for members, in theory, but it is also to tap us out, making all of us reliant on the union leadership for the long haul.
