If, a month ago, your boss came to you and said, "I want you to go on an out of town assignment for four months. 1.75 times your pay but you work 12x7 the whole time. Nice hotel, transportation, and all meals paid for." Who among you would have turned down this offer? And, if you would, why don't you just quit and go home?

I would have turned it down in a heartbeat. I do not get to see my children and no amount of money is worth the separation! Sad that people are gloating on here. I pray for all of you spewing negativity!
People on the union side are forced 3 weeks at a time for the last 4 years to nyc due to understaffing and its not 7×12 its a 40 hour a week gig at normal pay rate
Not all EWA people get overtime.
Now some of you may know how we feel when the big boss man walks in on a Thursday morning and informs 5 techs that they will be reporting to a garage 50 miles away starting Monday. Of course the boss man can't give specifics..duration, hours, location etc..in addition the boss man doesn't give a crap about nit picky issues you may have. You know, the ones about child care, getting kids to school, taking care of a sick parent, your home life or any other concerns you may have. 20 years ago it was a great place to work, now not so much. We are all just trying to make it to the end, that's all.
Most just want to go home at this point, and we're not getting any truthful answers as to when that may happen. I do have a new respect for the Union people since this started. It seems they are fighting against being treated the way we are being treated right now.
Bands 4 and 5 get no extra compensation. 6 gets less then 7 and 8.
If i remember correctly, this strike...forgive me...emergency work assignment wasn't an offer, rather an ultimatum. Go, or you're are considered as abandoning your job. Let's stop the high fiving... this a terrible situation we have been placed into.
My respect for the men and women working in maintenance and repair has been strengthened.

Why do they do the deployments?
- To give us our rights.
This is includes striking, and being an EWA.
My family means more to me, then the extra money, but I also have to have a job to support them.
As of this point, I am left behind, and I am glad about that.
We think differently, lets accept that.
Four lousy months? Nothing compared to a 9+ month deployment. No fancy hotels on deployment.
No, 7x12 I'm making 2.65 times my regular pay. Worth it for four months? You better believe it.
You are assuming everyone values trinkets and paper talismans as much as you do. Not everyone resides in base state consciousness. Some people value their families, pets, and homes more.
