Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Employment is not about supply/demand. It is about living and to have a human life at least on par or above the animal life, which do not

work for a living. Sometimes I get these feeling that humans are much dumber than animals. Humans have created all these laws and became prisoners of their own laws. Animals have more freedom than poor humans.

Good Lord. Does the OP think his employer and/or the government is responsible for giving him supper and tucking him in every night too?

Entitled, Dependent, and wussified are no way to go through life.

Bad Religion – Quality Or Quantity

Offer me eternity, and I'll trade a cup of coffee and a time,

Looking for a handout on behalf of those who have so little time,

But who wants to live on just 70 cents a day?

Padding your pockets doesn't make this a better place,

'Cereal and water' is a feast for some you say,

Your price-tag on existence can't cover your double face,

Quality or quantity

Quality or quantity

Quality or quantity a choice you have to make,

Dipping in the icing, bringing home the largest turkey from the field,

Breaking all the piggy banks, scooping up the booty,

licking all the right holes, bolstering the payroll,

Why reduce life to a dollar amount per day?

And why let the world think this is the American way?

Your uneaten greens are a feast for some you say,

Survival and living are concepts you can't equate,

Quality or quantity

Quality or quantity

Quality or quantity don't tell me they're the same,

Quality or quantity

Quality or quantity

Quality or quantity a choice you have to make

"You can't avoid the effects of globalization on the domestic labor market. We live in a rapidly changing world. Deal with it."

Nope, I will resist until my last breath. Not everyone wants to just "go along with the program" because a certain segment of the population wants to control everyone else.

This is painful to read. Yeah, I'd love it if labor had more power over capital in our society, but saying we created 'supply and demand to enslave' is absurd. You could actually model a lot of animal behavior with the same supply and demand concepts that we use to model our economic systems. For example: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v509/n7499/full/nature13332.html

You can't avoid the effects of globalization on the domestic labor market. We live in a rapidly changing world. Deal with it.

@uzg, humans are already causing that to happen with their supply and demand garbage by raping the earth, polluting the air we breathe and damaging the environment all in the name of "supply and demand", so you can forget about having a food source. With the way humans are going, the earth will be nothing but a barren uninhabitable wasteland, maybe not now but in the future.

"I don't need no stinkin' degree. Them there colleges be creatin' economic enslavement" -- the Brain Trust that is the unemployed Verizon union member."

Exactly correct, except many of us "unemployed Verizon members" have other opportunities, and many of us do not have a college degrees. College Education is a very expensive scam that the good little lemmings follow in a futile attempt to get ahead of everyone else. Much of it is just monkey see/monkey do type garbage. Also that degree in worthlessness doesn't magically give you common sense or critical thinking skills.

"Clearly the OP isn't not a business scholar or even a college graduate."

College programs you with what and how to think, it perpetuates the economic enslavement system we all live under, another tool of control for humans to enslave other humans with made up and phony ideologies.

"Supply and demand" is another stupid human concept to enslave and control. Do you think animals really care about "supply and demand?" Is that a natural law? Nope, didn't think so. Another made up bull$hit human concept.

Clearly the OP isn't not a business scholar or even a college graduate.

I'm always amused at people who think employment doesn't have to be paid for by revenue, and revenue isn't dependent on sales, and sales aren't dependent on demand. It's like these people think there is the employment fairy flying around creating the funds that pay employees.

"why would anyone pay someone more than they're worth?"

What someone is "worth" is a subjective and arbitrary stupid human concept made by humans who want to control and enslave other humans economically. One could argue that life is priceless and so is the time you have just to give it up to a job. I don't know about you, but my time is very valuable and there is no amount of money that anyone could pay me that makes it worth giving it all up.

@Utt even in the stone age supply and demand will still apply to economic activity.

This is drivel that is the product of a limited education. Economic models reflect human behavior. They don't create it. Supply and demand explains why some jobs pay more or less than others.

Or, to put it another way, why would anyone pay someone more than they're worth?

Yes. Most humans have lost sense of how much power they truly have, they have allowed themselves to become slaves to money and to greedy cutthroat corporations who could really give a crap about them working in sweatshop conditions just to provide for their families. This system of "workers and consumers" is absolutely disgusting. We are all economic slaves whether you want to admit to it or not.
