Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

It's called NEGOTIATION...

...not gimme more, gimme more, and don't take away anything that we bargained for 20 years ago. The whole point is to negotiate a fair contract, not a winner takes all contract. Typical successful negotiations result in both parties making sacrifices.

Will this magic software be able to place poles, repair copper/fiber cables, place aerial/underground cables, do fios installs, place fiber jumpers at cell sites and businesses etc? If not I will still have a job.

One thing you guys need to understand is : now it's being outsourced, in five years it will be AUTOMATED. Screw the CBA for one minute. Times are changing. More and more capabilities are had by voice recognition software, what then? In regards to now - If someone is willing to do your job for cheaper, why not pay them? The problem is not a Verizon issue but a gov't issue.

The statement all companies do it reminds of what our collective mothers preached as a kid, if they all jump off a building are you going to do it too. Your thoughts are good but we cant simply wait for a slow moving government to resolve this issue. Yes the union is fighting for good jobs for americans in the future. Wage increases are not the issue, if the company simply put the last contracr forward and said this is the next 3 years it would already have been ratified

All companies do it. The way to fix it is through taxes and incentives to make it cost prohibitive to outsource overseas for all US companies. Strike won't fix it. Issue much bigger than one region of one company that is global anyway.

The dispute is over sending calls to contractor centers, many of which are on foreign soil. These are jobs that americans could and should be doing. If every company is allowed to send our jobs (and money through bad trade deals) to other countries the only people that will have jobs here are bankers, and that will also end once the jobs and money leave.
