@rdn you would think so, since 52% of your dues are going to Democrat PAC.... so if that's the case, why are unions still on the decline? I don't think you're getting your money's worth. Politicians that lie? Never heard of such a thing.

@suo. Nailed it. Couldn't agree with you more. I think in the near future you will continue to see union membership decline. I'm hoping after they crash and burn that the next unions formed focus on these issues alone. I agree with the CWA about their outsourcing concerns but these changes need to be addressed at a legislative level and not by unions.

The future of the Union will be near zero unless they come to understand that we are not working in a 1920's sweat shop era where there were no government oversight. They should only be bargaining for safety, wages and fair treatment. Everything else is managerial as to the direction and needs of the business. Telling a company they cannot close or consolidate a center is unacceptable and is not a mandatory bargaining item. Bargaining a clerical position that on the street is a $12 and hour job to be a +$20 an hour job is why call centers get sent overseas.

When Unions begin to understand the world has changed, economies have changed, technologies and business needs have changed then they will have a place in the business world. At present a Union seems to be nothing more than a business that is striving to keep their membership numbers up.

Nice pro-Vz slant on the obvious. just because unions havent been as effective of late doesnt cenent a conclusion that they are dead or dying. plenty of examples where the right thing to do isnt the most popular, as well as where power checks fairness / common sense. look at gun control for instance....irrespective of your position on it, theres irrefutable proof of the NRAs influence.

the good work and underlying value of unions is clear, historically and globally. theyre less effective in Todays America in part because many have confused profitability with social conscienceness. consider Walmart, with 2 million workers, 80% earning less than $50k / yr. ...tell me unionizing the Walmart Associate workforce couldnt affect real, needed improvements in the workers' lives. darwinism is meant for life forms without societal needs, one can argue that includes corporations. humans elevating one another improves life for all....thats what unions aspire to do
