Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Sorry to burst your corporate kool aid bubble

If the union is so supposedly outdated, irrelevant, and uninfluential - then why does it attract so much attention and emotions from the posters here? Why has a new generation taken notice? Why has the media shown renewed interest in the topic? Why are politicians attaching themselves to the cause? Why has the company spent so much on counter-PR advertising? All the anti-Union comments here reek of underlying insecurity about this, and continue to prove the very point they try so hard to counter with pseudo intellectual rants and schoolyard name calling.

vjg, that is totally right. Nothing wrong with fighting for what you believe is right. That's honorable. It's the few on here that try and make the claim that this is a fight for all, when that is a complete lie. I am happy to see hear all sides as long as they honestly own up to what this is really all about. It's not Union = good and Verizon is bad or visa versa, but what each side thinks is fair for their own lives. I really hope it works out well for you and Verizon and that this gets resolved quickly.

I'm not walking for the whole middle class. I'm walking to maintain my lifestyle which is humble. If we do win a fair contract maybe others will fight harder for themselves in the future instead of rolling over and get handed crums.

I am so over hearing, that "the union is trying to protect the middle class". That is such BS. If you were to get everything you wanted and even more in this contract, how would this possibly help the middle class? This would benefit only this union members, no more. Once settled, you will go back to your lives bragging on how you are a member of the haves society and laugh at the those that are in the have nots. The unions do nothing for the average person in the middle class. Don't give me the crap that it is because of what unions get, that others eventually get. Again total bs. The rest of the world does not live off your crumbs. I really hope you are able to get what are fighting for, but stop trying to make it seem that you are doing this for all workers. Also a a side note, many non union workers are just as American as anyone in the union is, and this country and Verizon, was built by just as many non union workers as unions. Unions have their purpose and can certainly share in American pride, but they certainly are not the only ones that contributed. Really get over yourselves.

See through the hate. People are angry and it's not only union people spewing hate. If the middle class doesn't stand up then our country will fall to pieces. But people would rather see that happen I guess reading this board. People are tired of cooperate America winning all the time and the haters on here are to but for some reason they feel they cannot improve their position so they hate anyone who tries to. FACT

Bottom Line.....

Unions are losing their grip, it's not like the 20's and beyond when they meant something in this country. In these days they are not needed and they're afraid. VZ does not want to work with Unions anymore so if I was a member, I would cross and go back to work because eventually VZ will cut the cord and everyone will be jobless. This side of the business is old and VZ wants to sell it off just like the rest of the country. GET BACK TO WORK guys, it's not worth it anymore.

If they current management doesn't create hostile work environments to get union employee's to work crazy overtime that will be their job. Our work creates numbers for management and if those numbers are not met goodbye manager. That's riff and rape right there. The management knows it's wrong but they are scared. Instead of doing the right thing and bringing back the people that were laid off and hiring new employees they would just as soon ruin people's home lives. Yeah the money is good but it isn't everything. I guess the union employees are raped as well. There is no credibility on here but every manager that works outside plant knows we are understaffed in a lot of areas.

What can you say about someone who writes "DERP" in every post? No need to even insult such a person, they have already advertised their IQ and maturity.

The strike is a real non-event.

If you work for Verizon, you know there’s a strike.

If you are related to someone who does, or are within sight of somebody striking, you MIGHT aware of it. Otherwise… it might as well not be happening.

I have friends and family all over the country. ALL of them have been surprised when I have told them there was a strike. None of them express any sympathy when I tell them of the issues on the table.

I talked to an ex-employee the other day, and he was surprised there was a strike.

The strike made the news on TV in my city April 14th. To paraphrase the news item… Yeah, there’s a strike by Verizon workers. It’s not wireless, though. Don’t worry about it- it won’t affect you. There’s been nothing since.

So, please, union membership… please keep thinking you’re changing the world. The world couldn’t care less.

Get over yourselves. The majority of the country doesn't give a crap about you or your union. Unions are shriveling up like your old-not-been-used-in-years cork. Politicians? ha Feel the Bern got your votes and then left you blubbering at the altar. DERP

I'd rather walk in circles until my family starves before I let the company riff and rape me. Yeah, right. All management at Verizon is riffed and raped every minute of every day.

In a company the size of Verizon you need a union or we would have been riffed and raped and live in fear like the current management does.
