Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Striking employees confront Verizon CEO

“You have nice little posters up here saying how much the company is making,” Spoor said, referring to McAdam’s presentation to the shareholders. “If we’re such a great company, how come you can’t help the people who helped to build that company by giving them a cost of living allowance?”

Verizon, Spoor lamented, “is too profitable” for this to happen. She told McAdam, who himself made $18 million last year alone mostly from company stock value, that it was “inexcusable” for him to not share his profits “with the people who made this company.”

“I appreciate your perspective, but my perspective is GREEEED!” McAdam said.

You dipshits are wrong about every post in in here just about. First of all wireline did help create wireless. Where do you think bells labs got their money to invent and create wireless. Donations.???? No it came from profits from wireline. Next if you think companies cant cook books nowadays. You are on another planet. And last but not least for the complete retard that said the it benefits the company to make wireline look profitable you are completely wrong. They want it to look like it doesnt make any money so they can decrease employees and cut payroll costs and most importantly get rid of the union !!!!!

@wkd even SOX people have their price to look the other way. I like how you took one little snippet of what was said about VZ cooking the books but just ignored everything else. Do you deny that VZ uses wireline as their cost center?

gew -- you couldn't be more wrong. Wireless was started as a totally different company than wireline. It was NOT built by wireline.

Does it have wired backhaul? Yes.

Does the union have anything whatsoever to do with that backhaul or VzW in general? No.

If that is a talking point the union gave you then they really need to come up with something better.

And yet..... they are still being investigated for it. Not only verizon but other companies. Sec has filed more charges against companies in last 5 yrs then they did in last 3 decades. Thats like saying there are laws against guns yet people are still killed by them

eph -- you are full of it. Wireless is not treated any differently now than it was before VZ bought the other half of it.

You can try all you want to resist the fact that wireline is shrinking and isn't very profitable. All the clutching at straws to justify your wishful thinking doesn't change fact.

Plus, Verizon has no need to make Wireline look unprofitable. In fact, it's just the opposite. Since VZ wants to sell wireline (no secret) it would be much more to their benefit to make it look MORE profitable so buyers would be eager to pay more. You're suggesting that they are cooking the books to make wireline look bad, but there is no reason for them to do that.

-eph. Let me explain something to you: VZ is a public company, audited each year by Ernst & Young. With SOX compliance these days, there is no way a company can cook the books without an independent auditor seeing it. The days of Enron are over, which is why we have SOX now.

Why dont you get YOUR facts straight. Wireless was built by wireline. Wireless siphoned tons of $$$ from wireline. Now that they are standing on their own two feet how bout wireless payback all that $$$ that was used to keep the afloat all those years (funny it was under lowels management) and pay for their own bildouts instead of using wireline profits. Thats right they need to show that wireline has no profits. Wonder why they are starting to be investigated?

Also, wireline provides the headend backbone for Verizon Wireless services to work. So there goes the "Verizon wireline" is not as profitable as Verizon wireless argument.

@tfu, let me explain something to you. Verizon does something called ‘Profit Pumping' on the wireless side and then engages in Dumping all the Expenses onto the Wireline side, making wireline appear less profitable than it really is. Also, wireline provides the revenue for all of the corporate operating costs and executive/CEO salaries. research it. They make it "appear" that wireline isn't as profitable as it really is by throwing out that "6%" garbage. That figure is completely deceptive. Don't buy the lie. They are using wireline as their cost center to cook the books.

npv,

Point 1 is correct.

Point 2, is BS.

The profit of VZ has nothing to do with the union.

You did not build this company up.

Wireless did, you build the MCI, etc, but now that is 7% of the profits.

Get your facts straight.

Nah, i would rather divest from all Verizon services including their stock and switch to another provider. Voting with your dollar is the only language that these greedy bastards understand, that is more powerful than just updating your skill sets / resume to cater to these same type of people at other companies.

Two issues here:

1) CEOs make a lot of money, and much of it is company stock. There is a market for CEO pay, and Lowell is paid based on market pay. It isn't up to union individual contributors to determine how much Lowell's compensation should be.

2) If Lowell needs to share his wealth, why should he just share it with the union? There are 120,000 other Verizon employees too. If you think he needs to be sharing his $18 million, you need to divide it by 160,000, not by just 40,000 for the union.

All jobs have payscales and compensation plans. You have yours, I have mine, and Lowell has his. If you don't like your compensation plan then either a) try to improve yourself so you can move up, or b) put out the resume and find another job that better suits what you're looking for.
