Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Thats the people of seattle's fault because if everyone refused to go to the mcdonalds with kiosks after 2 weeks those kiosks would be in the dumpster. There would be a 16 year old kid making 20 dollars an hour standing at a register saying can i take your order please.

To anyone that want $15/hr to be the new minimum wage:

Just remember the true minimum wage is 0... Seattle McDonalds replaced many jobs with kiosks.

There are plenty of people out there that if I was told I had to pay them $15/hr I'd rather do it myself.

As a union member, I agree with Rich Young on this one. The Union leadership has an obligation to its members, not the political movement they are trying to be apart of.

Quit the b.s. and get us back to work! After that, if they want to use the $15 an hour movement as a springboard for increasing union membership in the future, by all means go for it. But get us back to work!

Neither the TV ad or radio airtime Verizon is playing every 5 seconds mentions last/final. Current is used.

The bargaining team is not out picketing, so not sure what was meant by this statement.

Contractors won't have drug testing or background checks. There really is a difference in how you want your workers to represent the company. A police officer had a contractor in his home who stole medication. Not saying an actual employee wouldn't, but when you are a contractor and just a fly by night in the area one day off to another state another the chances are greater because they dont have as much to lose. Contractors dont get benefits they dont get a retirement and usually dont have taxes come out of their pay, which causes a huge bill at yr end. Employees respect their livelihood and are here long term and have all the benefits which means they are more responsible and more likely for the public to trust in their home.

I believe they are still negotiating no offer is ever final, this will all work out. People want The Verizon EMPLOYEES in there home, because they usually are residents of the community and looked as neighbors. Contractors are strangers, not neighbors no connection to the community. Customers will not want them in their home.
