Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I want to be put on the RIF list- can the union help with that?

You guys are always saying we'll be RIF'd when we get back to our regular jobs... so I was hoping you can help get me put on a list- you have pull with that, right?

oh yeah....

Yes, that's another thing that makes me laugh- according to the company all is running smooth- so that means that your departments are running smooth without you while you are out and pretending to be field techs- get it?

Where we are the field foreman position is a huge joke- everything I need to do I do in my tablet- then I am tracked, GPS'd and metric'd to death once I leave the shop- the DRC handles all movement of work- I submit time off requests through the tablet and call DRC if I am sick.

@OP, Your Manager/Director determined you as " Non-Essential" when you were assigned a Strike assignment.

You have not been working your normal job for almost a month as of next friday 13th. and your department is still running fine!

In order for VZ to pay for whatever they agree to with the Union, they will RIF non-union / management employees to finance it. That has been the process for many years. Try not to make light of a RIF, it will hit you between the eyes. also the VZ state you work in may be an At-Will state where you can get fired and not get a severance. Think about it, you want to walk into your Director/ manager's office and say "put me on the RIF list" , that is almost the same as saying "I Quit".

Just stay the course until this Strike is over and stop telling people your plans.

I've been out here for multiple strikes in the past 20 years, just because you go on EWA dosn't mean you get riffed.

I don't understand why the Union people always say EWAers will be RIFed after the strike is over as a secret that nobody knows. Just like @HgHrw4O-amv said, we all on the list, just a matter of time.

If you have an EWA, you are already on a rif list.

I volunteered this year. Since the strike keeps going, I might need to wait for a while.

THEY DON'T LIKE YOU, WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO BELIEVE. THEY HAVE NO LOYALTY, EXCEPT FOR THE STREET.

I wouldn't joke about that. I worked very hard for Verizon for over a decade, had a leading rating and was tossed like a used piece of trash.

You think it's funny, but you probably already are on a list, or someone you know is.

No worries, if you're non-union, you are already on the RIF list .... especially if you're coming back from EWA duty. Just a special little gift from Verizon for you sacrifice, loyalty and hard work.
