Verizon Negotiations Update 5/6/2016

See the company provides more updates than the worthless POS Union!

5/6/2016

V Team:

There have been no bargaining meetings with the New York/New England unions since our meeting with them on Monday. At the unions’ request, there was an off-the-record subcommittee meeting on Wednesday to discuss call sharing.

We met with the Mid-Atlantic unions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. In these meetings, the unions presented proposals on a number of specific subjects, including call sharing. Their call sharing proposal did not include the routing flexibility that the Company has identified as a critical issue. In fact, it went backward from the unacceptable call sharing proposal that the unions had included as part of a package in January. We rejected their proposals and we reiterated that the unions have our last best final offer.

We will continue to keep you updated.

Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer

Bottom Line.....

Unions are losing their grip, it's not like the 20's and beyond when they meant something in this country. In these days they are not needed and they're afraid. VZ does not want to work with Unions anymore so if I was a member, I would cross and go back to work because eventually VZ will cut the cord and everyone will be jobless. This side of the business is old and VZ wants to sell it off just like the rest of the country. GET BACK TO WORK guys, it's not worth it anymore.

FYI - NOTHING in this life is OWED to ANYONE. You need to have your head examined if you think that!!! Your family that fought is owed respect, you are owed nothing.

Full page ads running in Pittsburgh looking for tenp workers. Many skilled folks who are not afraid to put in a day's work will be doing your jobs in no time. I hope Verizon can handle the flood of workers headed their way. You think good jobs are out there waiting for you, think again.

Verizon has seen that the Unions aren't budging on demands. So they are advertising jobs all over the place in order to speed up customer installs.

If you guys weren't sweating before, you should be now.

@vva oh, I see. Well, the dollar does speak loudly lol. But I'm not trying to insult the call centers, but it seems to me that those positions really aren't skilled and could easily be learned by just about anyone. Where as the installers, etc are truly craftsmen where a specialized skill is a necessity. those positions require not only skill, but also a predisposition to mechanical aptitude so they truly are specialized positions. Oh well, guess at the end of the day neither of us can change it haha. Thanks for the reply. All the best to you!

I do see what you mean, but the reality is, the union leadership just wants dues. It doesn't matter how skilled you are as long as you can pay dues.

@ojo- that's a really good point. I've often wondered why the call centers were union. I always thought the union was for specialty-type jobs that were highly skilled and technical. Carpenters, welders, plumbers, etc. those positions that required a very specific and refined skill set. Not that I think the call centers aren't skilled, but you see what I mean.

Call centers aren't a union issue. It's an everywhere issue. Those jobs are (sorry its true) typically lower wage and less demanding than most skill jobs. If voice recognition was more reliable, all of those jobs would be automated anyways. Just a matter of time. What then, union?

most of NY is union, so i don't believe they will get rid of "all". You cant even get into some buildings without a union card, if you do its usually in through a back door. I think the biggest threat is call centers, which i personally believe doesn't need to be union, but does need to stay in the US.

Verizon has as long as you can last + forever because they see the long term stock benefits of busting you. Non union temporary contract workers are a hell of a lot cheaper and make the sale of wireline a hell of a lot easier. Please stop the madness and come back. The only ones losing this are you and ewa.

Was working with some of the retired union folks on the support bridge. Can't share the many details of that convo, but he was very surprised at the information I have learned. I am completing jobs way beyond "simple copper fixes". His words were : "you know way more than EWAs, and more than some of my old techs." Fact is, there are bright people out there, and if they want to be good at this job, they will cherish the opportunity and do well at it. Be thankful you have a job, an opportunity in this country, and make the best of it. Some of you are so damn entitled.

Ok well my training took about 6 months. Verizon doesn't have 6 months. They are way behind right now on everything.

They are not just giving them a week's training. They are getting the same, full training you received. All of it!

The previous poster is correct. You are all being replaced. The union is done at Verizon.

@TTI-

maybe Verizon learned it's lesson, and is hiring a better quality employee this time around.

maybe they're capable of learning the material in a week instead of three months.

Do you people think the Union would let 39k members paying dues be let go???? Then why strike??? The greedy union should've just keep their money and let Verizon workers take a sh--ty contract. The will be no permanent replacement of any workers on strike. Check out labor laws.#

@axm lol....that's funny... you are going to train guys for a week and expect everything to get done.. Your crazy...Only thing being done since strike started are Simple fios installs and copper troubles...Very few mux's being installed or turned up. Repeats out the ass.. Verizon is just barely able to keep all the systems up and running.. tick....tock...

@pwq You cannot be more wrong. The company does have a choice and they are exercising it. As you read this, your replacement is going through training to replace YOU! You are the one who will no longer be employed at Verizon. The union will not come to your rescue anymore. They have already lost and they are done. Come back to work before it's too late, and you no longer have the option to return.

Verizon will have no choice soon but to give in to the union's. Work is backing up everyday.

@hgi. It's pretty simple if you read the email. No formal meetings with the NY/NE members since Monday. But the Mid-Atlantic unions met Tuesday, Wdnesday, and Thursday.

@JNI- overall, the unions are pretty stingy with the info. cwa 2-13 is better that cwa 1.

@PAD- you're right. Verizon has offered their best and final. the union leadership is neither signing it, nor are they making constructive offers. the talks should be over. the union leadership should tell it's membership to be very proud they stood their ground, but it's now time to go home and tell your families that their jobs are now going to vendors and contractors. good job, guys! you really stood up to the man!!!

I'm curious as to what the Unions are saying about the negotiations this week. Has there been any communication from the union leadership? Verizon has been pretty good about sending updates, but I don't ever hear from the unions as to what their side is saying. This isn't a slam, and I'm not being antagonistic, but I'm seriously curious about how this is being communicated from both sides.

It's real. Just got the email. Way to go union! Instead of trying to reach agreement you're moving backwards. Your members are proud that they remain unpaid and without benefits for another week.

@cnl- you are wrong. It was sent to all employees via email from the VZ News mailbox at 3:47 pm today. Sorry, I know you wish it was a hoax, but it's real. And you're still screwed!

They meet because they have to jackwad. If they don't go to the table, then the union will say they refuse to negotiate. Going to the table means nothing in this case, because the only answer Verizon gives the union is the same one it's been giving, and will continue to give: you have the best last and final in front of you already. I don't know how the union bosses can keep all of their members in the dark just by chanting one day longer lol. It's a pack mentality, and the pack is running off the cliff. When will the member wake up and realize that you're going without a paycheck for no reason. You're not going to get anything that's not already been offered.
