@OP: 1) HR really does take your concerns very seriously during Exit Interview.

2) You can take the Pension Lump Sum option and roll it over to an IRA ( you probably have a Cash Balance) or to your new job's 401K

1. Personally I would wait for the Strike to be over and get RIF'd .(you get Severance payout) ...ask you boss to keep you in mind WHEN not IF the RIF plan starts THIS YEAR.

does the pay also include short notice days floating etc

Well I've seen a couple of instances where a note from the Doc limiting free overtime for health reasons has worked wonders in the next Rif cycle. Doesn't have to be anything major. Don't do it unless you are really ready to leave, I'm guessing you can't take it back. Anything not disrespectful is worth a try before you leave everything on the table.

Let your boss know, give him a letter, and that's pretty much it. Professionally it will look better to your new employer if you give VZ 2 weeks notice (that's pretty much expected, and your new employer will have you in a better light if leave taking the high road and they know you gave two weeks).

Any accrued unused vacation will be paid out to you in a check.

The company will likely want to give you an Exit Interview, and as a professional courtesy you should do it. It gives you a platform to let HR know exactly why you're leaving. And I can promise you they listen and take all comments seriously.

if you resign, yes your unused vacation will go back to you. As far as pension goes, sorry not sure.

good question. i also am wondering if i can just report to work - and then state my intentions to retire. (30+ years C&P Tel, BellAtlantic, Verizon)
