It seems that part of the EG group (the MCOS part) have their layoff announcements delayed until the end of May so they can conduct an "Interest in Leaving" survey.

In other words, they want to know how much it would take to buy out an employee.

I suppose that's a nice thing, because they are at least offering folks the choice to bolt on their own terms and with what may be a bigger severance package.

But overall, for at least part of the Legacy DTV group, the announcement on who gets executed is put off by at least a week or two.

Stay tuned.

My ...this is the stuff bad culture creates...turning against each other. Att should make its own avenger's movie. We both suck collectively att and dtv - and Randall is sinking the titanic. And without the board and other shareholders stopping him, it almost seems intentional.

I didn't realize directv people were such whiners! You were bought for your subscriber base, provider contracts and delivery method that won't chew up our network bandwidth. Whoever told you that you were the better company lied to you. After dealing with your engineering, IT and operations divisions, I can assure you that you are AT LEAST as messed up as we were before purchasing you. If anything some of us ATT people are going to get escorted out of the building exactly because of our association with parts of your company that are failing to perform. Like -1for said, you are deluding yourselves that you were somehow superior. If you were, ATT would not have been able to take you over. Your own board would not have agreed to the take over. You were sold out by your own people.

Now we all have to just wait and see who survives this next round of layoffs because we were told how advanced directv was and it turns out, it isn't. Your engineering department isn't impressing anyone at ATT. In fact, if you're on the engineering side, you better hold on tight! It's going to be a rough ride this year. From what I'm hearing the clock is ticking and if you don't deliver then all that work will get farmed out just like the call centers. So if you thought those lofty degrees would protect you, then I hope your CV is up to date.

good luck everybody, here's to hoping that this week is unremarkable.

Cheers,

When one company buys another company it's usually the company on the decline (AT&T) buys the company on an upswing (DTV). DTV is not a lesser company. DTV was a good company until

AT&T bought it and started running in the ground.

Let's not kid ourselves with delusions of grandeur - DTV was no Mecca of mgmt brilliance. And it certainly wasn't forward thinking. I'm no great fan of the new boss but the old boss wasn't so great either.

Funny how one comment implied DTV is the "lesser" company, when it was so much better managed, productive, and satisfying than T.

It will be an interesting day when Google, FB or AZ make a play for att. I'm sure it would end up being a welcomed and lucrative "ushering out" too. Might make a few people look bad though for one of the above to turn it all around so quickly. Att doesn't really have money problems persay, it has idea (and leadership) problems.

This is all normal. Merger and the stronger company dismisses all the high level execs at the lesser company. Execs at the lesser company also know it and get a parachute package to smile as they walk out. The Rich satisfying other Rich people. Then a review of functional areas and layoffs. This is all normal and why us little people should never feel safe during a merger. Never safe even w/out a merger. It is a new world and it stinks.
