I am forced into an EWA assignment and have no choice. If I do not do it I get fired. I use to feel bad for the union and agreed with them in some of their grievances. However, driving my van tonight, and a union thug with his 10 year old kid in the car was parked at a lot next to an intersection. He charged the van swearing all kinds of swear words flipping me off. All this in front of his kid. This union person was just a slimy thug and I bet his kid grows up to be one as well. I just hope more union members have more class than him. Cannot support people like that. Protest if you need to, but do it with a little class

Sorry, no sympathy for you EWA. We work hard and all I see are a bunch of people standing around not knowing how to even put up a ladder . Whatever we get, you get. So while we are walking the picket line , remember why you really do get paid the salary you do . Without the unions you'd never be making anything close to this or get any benefits . Stop whining and let the real techs go back to work
Yeah, the only people I run into who know about the strike are close friends who I've been telling for a while that there might be one. Not a big deal for anyone except Verizon and the union. And honestly life goes on with us. Spoke to one of my buds on EWA and he's fine. Busy but you know you put your head down and plug forward. That's how management works. Not a lot of complainers, but people who get the job done that is given to them.
I don't live in the NE, I don't have an EWA assignment, and this is no where on the news or in papers elsewhere. I explain that we are on strike, people look at me as if I spoke a foreign language. I barely know what it even means, first time I have ever had co-workers go out on EWA. If you aren't in the NE bubble, or work at VZ, you won't know about a strike at all.

Kun- unlike you, I don't still live in mommy's basement. I realize that's all you can afford now that you have no job, so good for you. At least you and little Guido aren't homeless yet. I hope you're pushing little Guido to get an education so that he isn't stuck doing the same manual labor you're stuck doing for the rest of his life. I know that the DNA in your family isn't strong, but hopefully he got enough of his moms DNA to offset yours. If so, he might have a chance to be a productive part of society. It's too late for you, but we can all hope little Guido actually turns out better.

Forced? Manager please. As a fellow EWAer, don't go around saying or even thinking we are forced. We choose to do EWA because we want the rewards which include keeping our jobs. Nobody forces me to do anything.

Unless you live in the slums with the majority of the union hacks, no one cares. Only those who have nothing to look forward to except for taking little Guido to get his back shaved for the first time give a rip about the strike. Climb out from the slums and see what the rest of the world sees: a bunch of illiterate, pathetic, lazy people begging for a handout from daddy Lowell.
The media doesn't care, its political season, and this union at vz only represents 20% of the total Vz workforce. There are more hourly, non management employees than the union #'s. Its a non issue for the 43 other States in the US, therefore not even a blip in the national media. Only in the NE does the union have any clout left, to the rest of the us populace, its something out of a history book.
I just remind that customers (who really most don't know or care there's a strike occurring) that I appreciate their business today, I was happy to serve them, and just remember, those loud obnoxious people yelling and making a lot of noise out front who said I couldn't get you hooked up will happily serve you later in the event of future problems...
...probably not the best selling point for future business but it's not like the Union cares about their jobs anyway.
osn , 48 hrs from what day? That's a long news cycle, 3 weeks. You can fool some of the people some of the time, seems you can fool yourself all the time.
There is zero public support for the strike. It was part of the news cycle for about 48 hours max. Callers to the call centers are not aware of it and previous delays on installs are quickly shrinking as the EWA workers get better each day.
Many people have heard of it, they just do not care.

ngh , stop walking around with your head in the clouds, many people know about the strike. It's been in the news, TV and newspaper, on radio, on the internet, on finance boards. Seems everywhere but in your brain.
I showed up at a VZW store only to find a customer outside cursing at the employees. He was calling one employee a racist and wanted him to come outside. The Verizon reputation is going down the toilet. If you treat people the way they do it's just a matter of time.
@usq: don't let your narcissism cloud your brain. The vast majority of the public doesn't even realize there is a strike, and the vast vast majority of them don't have a favorable opinion of unions.
The only people who get emotional like the OP describes are union people. The rest of the world either doesn't know about the strike or they don't care.

The majority are low class, trailer park dwelling, jerry springer watching thugs. And for them to do things like the OP described in front of his kids? Par for the course unfortunately.
Maybe he wasn't a "union thug" as you say. Could have been someone who is just plain pissed off at Verizon, public sympathy. Unfortunately it happens. Be careful.
