Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Gut punch

Just read the results for the BoD and issues presented for the vote. That had to be a gut punch. Those that own vz decided with overwhelming plurality that profit prevails over everything else.

I understand you guys conaider yourself stakeholders and builders of the company. In reality it's just pennies compared to the true legal owners. It sucks people can stand on your shoulders and claim to be 10ft tall.

So...this begs the question. When the doors close and the bargain is accepted. Do you take it or do you walk?

Would you rather walk away with dignity or stick it out for a couple more years?

Vz probably has their doors closed now and are no long entertaining any more offers.

5/20 was selected out or legal obligation. They're crossing their fingers you stay out there.

Tough decision I don't envy.

May God bless the union folks and the EWA folks alike. Whatever hatred may have existed before the strike started, and how ever much that hatred may have grown since the strike started, I wish only the very best fo you and your families -- who never asked to be put in the middle of this. Please remember the EWAs, however you may feel, have zero choice in any of this. Please remember also that the union members, right or wrong, only want better working conditions and better pay for themselves and ther families. Please, Lord, let this hatred stop. I only wish to love and respect my brothers and sisters. For the good of everyone, I hope the leaders on both sides can put their personal differences aside and focus on what is best for Verizon's and its employees, union and non-union alike. Please, I beg of you, let us not let pride and vanity injure our children. Whether they are yours or mine doesn't matter,.

Hold the presses! An organization that exists solely to make money and to compensate its owners decides that profits prevail over everything else!

The fact that anyone believes a for-profit company exists for any other reason is just further proof this country has gone insane (Trump's nomination seals it) This company owes its employees nothing beyond adhering to the terms of employment that both parties agreed to upon hiring. Or in the union's case, that someone else agreed to on their behalf because they couldn't do it on their own.

Well said, OP. Not a hard decision from my viewpoint. Taking the contract buys who time to start looking around just in case. Not taking the contract means who start looking around now but aren't currently employed.

The Union thinks that the company and their interests diverge. But that's not the case. Where's there's a difference of agreement is in what share does the union worker get, and whether or not they really need to work for a living.

hey dipstick, the preponderance of VZ shares are held in institutional accounts..California Employee pension, big equity funds, insurance funds, and annuities. There is not an instance in Verizons history where the majority of shares outstanding didnt vote with the Board recommendation. the only place you see actual shareholder challenge is when theres an activist major holder...Icahn, K, Soros, Redstone, e.g. . Vzs sleeping giants want gauranteed dividend and value appreciation exclusively...no social causes supported

union folks,

please put down your picket signs, stop yelling nonsense at Verizon employees and come back to work while you still have a job that you can perform and it is still available to you. While i understand the union leaders, who you pay nicely, are telling you to stay strong, please think for yourselves and keep your jobs for your families sake. right now the company is offering you a raise, take it say thank you and start getting compensated again, for a job that is terribly easy to do, takes barely any skill and is going to be replaced shortly by technological improvements anyway.

My advice to each of you, come back to work, leave the union behind, train yourself on wireless aspects of the business and stay employed by a great company who treats you fairly if you perform and do your job. Stop blindly listening to union bosses and listen to your own common sense. By the way, training yourself is the key here, don't wait for anyone to take you by the hand and train you, do this for yourselves. Come back while you still can.

Union soundly defeated at shareholder meeting. Every one of their proposals shot down in flames and then they were arrested for impeding traffic. Way to go union! Haha.
