Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

We know the surplus notices are coming (EG)

For impacted EG org managers how is your group/department/office handling the lead up to next week? Is there a lot of panic and worry? The people around me seem pretty oblivious for the most part.

It does not matter how specialized your group is, if you were in a prenotification call you will lose head count. The T way is to eliminate duplication.

My group is legacy DTV. We're very small and performed a more or less specialized function related to DTV only, and one that is still important to not only running DTV but also for the bigger picture for T. There is a general overlap for T function, but given then the specifics and volume of the work would mean that "surplussing" either T or DTV people in these positions would result in the need for immediate training in new systems, a noticeable drop in efficiency, and impact on the customer level.

That's a long way of saying that logically my group should not be worried.

But then again, T has a history of being messy when it comes to layoffs, and from what I see on this board, they are often short-sighted about how and where to make the cuts. So even though mucking with the group would be a rather silly thing to do, we are all aware enough to know there is at least a puncher's chance it happens.

That's a long way of saying that realistically, my group is worried.

AT&T's reputation is killing morale.

Read HR Onestop. It's there in writing. You can lookup Surplus and educate yourself. The company has it all there for you if you would like to confirm.

Medical leave won't save you. They can still surplus you if you are on leave.

I've heard they go back multiple years when looking at performance reviews, so it's possible an old boss could strike you from the distant past.

Good luck, folks!

I'm not sure it was a lie. There was a surplus event in ATO mid 2015 done soley by hr and from reviews with some input by mgt IF they had questions. I believed that.

I think they excecute and test administration of layoffs.

Your Exec Director lied to you. He ranked them.

I was surplussed many years ago. My Exec Dir gave me the bad news. I asked who did the ranking and he said it was above his level. He was not part of the ranking. Best I can figure is it was done by review of the Annual Reviews. Not sure if they have better way to do it these days but....don't assume your Sr. Tech Dir or Exec Dir have any input...they too may be on the chopping block

You're thinking people get some notices this week?

We already know, and there's a good chance that some people will hear this week or on 5/12 or 5/13.

of course people know. I'd wager most directors are fully in the know for their orgs. Associate directors are probably in on it as well. Someone had to pick the ones who are being let go. Lists of names were provided at some point to someone so they could fill out the org chart. A director with 150 people in their org isn't going to be able to effectively rank their people without insight from their ADs or AMs.
