It's HIPAA (not HIPPA) and it only applies to Covered Entities (like healthcare clearing houses, health providers or insurers, etc.) who process certain transactions in electronic form. HIPAA doesn't even apply to doctors who process all of their payments in cash. Pretty perfect example of someone getting riled and hotheaded about something without having the first goddamn clue what they are talking about.

@gdh -- it's not breaking HIPPA for someone to disclose that they are aware of the situation and it is different than the story which was posted.
They only break HIPPA if they disclose what the actual situation is. So rest easy, 2108 isn't breaking any HIPPA laws.
They didn't disclose any medical information. They just said they are aware of it and the story is a little different than what I heard.

What kind of a-hole at 2108 would even talk about this family and their medical records?
If they did, I would hope that they sue the Union using the HIPPA laws. and then sue each individual that had access to medical information, who talked about it.
