Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Oh no! The replacements are coming. THE REPLACEMENTS ARE COMING!!!!!!

I keep reading about all these replacement workers that are going to heroicly swoop in and take our jobs from us. So if I got this right, these new hires are going to be able to come out and maintain this plant with no experience, no knowledge of the plant and mysteriously somehow keep it going? This is a pipe dream at best. I don't care if half the "new hires" are retired from other states or whatnot. NY is a beast of a city to work in and some green assfield tech is not going to be able to just come in and do it for real. Just ask 90% of you ewa people. And just so you know, fixing a broken cross connect or running a loop is not what this job really entails. This company would go down for sure. I hate to break it to you but experience matters. Good luck with the replacement plan fellas.

Can't wait to see these clowns when they try to decipher this plant. Where's this xbox at pole 732-45? How do I chase a takeoff cable in former GTE? How do I migrate to Voicelink when there's no cell service in rural PA? And, how do I find my way out of here since the GPS isn't picking up a signal?

Trust me, just because Verizon execs have poor fore sight, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't either. Their is a reason why just as Verizon sold of some wireline, somebody else bought it. Did you read about charter buying lighthouse and time warner? I guess those execs just aren't as smart as good old Lowell. What about Google? Wow, I think I heard something about them building out a fiber network. Or how about the other cities who built their own? I guess everyone BUT Verizon is in for a big surprise in five years. Lol. What a joke

We can have the conversation now if you would like. Start with a "real" premise and we can talk. Repeating false and cooked numbers doesn't constitute reality. Explain to me how wireline, whether copper, fiber or coax old will be gone in 5 years? I'll be waiting.

Well, the job must not be that hard if your 9th grade education figured it out.

"You are subterranean and classless."

From the person saying this. A true projection of character. If we weren't needed then none of you would have been brought in to try and replace us. You guys are so brainwashed that you can't face the fact that you are wrong. We are as essential as the customer. Nothing works without our work. No cellphone, no internet, no pots, no special circuits, no 911, no alarm systems, not even atm's. Not even the computer you sit behind all day in your cubicle. Try telling most businesses that they don't need wireline and you will be laughed at. And you forgot to remember that Vz is a utility that controls critical infrastructure. We will be here as long as Vz owns it and after they sell it. Just remember that this is a world economy now and someone in India will soon be doing YOUR job if things stay the same.

dmn... You don't even work for Verizon. Go f--- off.

And management should also stop being legends in there own minds. They can't do the menial work that most union guys and gals do. At best they are driving people who have half a clue around. Scab contractors not themselves will do the work of the union people. And most managers wouldn't survive a week at a job that actually required real managerial skills.....if you had them..you sure as sh-- wouldn't still be sucking on Verizon's tit.

Yeah of course there are plenty of people who can do our job. The problem is it will take them a long time to get to where we are. There are a lot of tricks that are taught by either hands on experience or by another experienced person. Nobody here is a legend nor do I pretend to be one. Just pointing out some basic facts of the job.

You self righteous neanderthals keep refusing to face the damn REALITY shoveled to your faces!!

Your self-important role even at advanced tech positions are affixed to a business unit associated with 7% of PROFIT!

Who gives a sh@t if the replacements cant maneuver NY or produce as well as your Nepotistic supplied 20 year job.

It's irrelevant! No one cares about you, justifiably so. You are subterranean and classless.

@HeTyTEi :

Okay union guys and gals...stop being legends in your own mind. This is not magical powers. There was a point in everyone's life they didnt know jack sh--. There are people now out there tooting their horns and yelling into a parking cone that don't know jack sh--.

There are MANY..as in plenty and a surplus of people with the marginal skills required to fix what needs to be fixed and install what needs to be installed. Splice what needs to be spliced.

Sorry to tell you, but you are wrong. Do some homework before you come back and talk that nonsense. Only in the event of a "purely economic strike" can workers be replaced permanently. Also, if you do a quick Google search you will find out that there are many factors as to which the company has not bargained in good faith. The most recent one was sending a letter directly to each and every union member via fed ex, circumventing our union leadership. That's a nlrb violation. Many more examples can be pointed out but I just don't think the effort involved in typing them is worth it. Stop spreading lies. You only make yourself look stupid.

What union folks need to know is that any temporary employee they hire can take a union position when the strike ends. This means that some union folks will be out of a job. The only thing the law requires is that the displaced union workers need to be put on a list of rehires when additional employees need to be hired. However, with the wireline business shrinking there may not be a need to hire any additional workers.

Verizon is a state utility! Why do you think they keep denying letting the copper plant deteriorate. The psc is finally waking from its nap and lots of people in government are starting to make some noise. This will not dissappear anytime soon. Can't wait for the audits to start happening and the truth behind the lies that Vz has been spreading come to light. Shady accounting at its best. Lots of expenses thrown into the local wireline UTILITY that shouldn't have been there. This is only the beginning. As a matter of fact the last time this sh-- happened was is 1996. Is it a coincidence that, that's when most of us left started to get hired? I think not

You are right. Wireline will crumble and only produce 4 or 5% of the net income instead of 7% and be sold off cheaper than desired. Not a material difference to what is now a global market. Everyone is replaceable even if it takes time. That's the reality we are all faced with, union or not. Just depends on if shareholders will accept it. Stock price still above $50 per share indicates probably so.

That's the point, they won't. Most of us have more than 15 years of experience with the actual job and plant. Training in a classroom will not suffice in the big cities. What will you do when you go in a manhole with a play that hasn't been updated in 20 years, company is too cheap to do that, and there are 15-20 different cases with stubs running all over the place and more than 3/4 aren't tagged? Go ahead Mr. Green, figure it out all by yourself and fix the problem. Oh did I forget to mention that the hole is 20 feet deep and you have about 24" of room to move around from chest to back? Is that splice a paragon splice? How am I gonna pick tone out of that? And it's layered cable? FML! Should be no problem for you "replacement" workers.

Last time there was a certain big problem with the replacement workers.I will not mention what it was, because I wouldn't doubt Verizon is stupid enough to do it twice
