Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Employee Self Destruction

Well, the company is accomplishing, at least in my view, one of its goals of creating internal strife among employees to divert your attention away from them. Lately, I'm seeing more and more employees infighting among themselves, especially in the Technology Field Services, where the workload is getting lighter and lighter. As soon as any project comes down the line, the knives come out and watch out! Used to be one had loyalty and cameraderie within your group but no more. Now its just day to day survival.

One of The hardest thing in business, is to change the way people perceived you, Most managers at ATT are cut with the same pair of scissors, I do believe it is time to bring fresh and new ideas to the table, and asked for these dinosaurs to retire.. Please do!!!

I am in my 30s with an electrical engineering degree and a Masters in CS. The grass is soooooo much greener everywhere than AT&T. Engineers at AT&T are told they're stupid and given data entry work by engineering managers who only have high school degrees. Like the other poster in this thread, these engineering managers tell you how wrong it is to leave and discourage you from finding out how much better it is. Thank God I left AT&T and my skills are actually used now.

AT&T's culture is complete rubbish. A lot of incompetent managers that are waaaay past their prime backstabbing and slandering anyone who threatens them intellectually, which means people with good skill sets and quality ideas.

You can al out understand why they're trying to clean house. What good millennial are going to want to work for this American dinosaur?

As a 66 YO Retired Engineering Manager I can really tell you don't leave until you can retiree with your current assets. Don't dream about another rewarding job out there as they do not exist that you can support yourself with as well as working for AT. I never found one just offers for min wage jobs, and I hold a MBA degree. It just does not matter! If you are still with Ma she is still your best bet for a retirement with your match and retirement benefits. There better than anywhere else. The grass is NOT greener and be very grateful for what you have with AT. Stay put it's still the best bet.

The older employees have done their diligence and I'm not one of them but this is not your Pacific Telisis or Ma Bell, they can't or don't wanna keep up with technology. I work with at lest 10 of them and they even admit that it's time they are just collecting a paycheck. This would allow us middle (10-15-20)year employees chance to move up in seniority since we still have the drive to do so.

I had never seen anywhere else the backstabbing that we experience at ATO, and much BS and unethical behavior reigns here

I sorta disagree. Why can't someone whose 63 stay if they want and produce/ provide value. I mean this whole 60+ retiring age is bogus. It was based on a German system 70 years ago when didn't live past 65.

In my opinion creating meaning and purpose in work benefits ATT. It's this shift software companies are making. But again it's a paradigm that att can't wrap their minds around. They want the software company with no ideology shift. Good luck with that.

Btw I'm in my 30s...just a perspective from a younger employee.

Well the company should give them an offer so they CAN leave!! Some of the 25 + year employees don't have the age to leave since this maybe the only job they have had they can't retire. The company is taking the shady way out by creating higher quotas, longer hours, unrealistic demands which is only hurting the customers too. Im all for keeping the company going but give the old timers their goodbye with an offer, hire these young, fresh go-getters who haven't yet been broken down mentally and keep moving in a positive growth direction!

This is what happens when u don't take care or establish good culture. What ur seeing is utter exposure of profits first and no servent leaders. Just egomaniacs out to make a buck.

I knew it was over when our director got on a call of about 30 people and said " blame the surplus on the folks with 25 plus years who refuse to leave"...there must have been at least 8 people who fit the description. But it started the larger infighting and the more obvious trickery and setups.
