Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Some EWAs are starting to crack under the stress. Some scabs are crossing. Is this exactly what the company is aiming for?

Management that can handle any assignment and associates that think for themselves?

Meanwhile the union talks big and does nothing. Just like a politician.

tro -- if Verizon sees bunches of people leaving for greener pastures they will have to adapt. That's part of our free market culture. If it happens it happens.

When people don't like their job they are free to leave and pursue opportunities that are more to their liking. It's always been that way, and I will never understand why union people seem to think they are chained to one company for life. Unions will never be successful trying to force companies to adapt to the employees -- that is the tail wagging the dog.

"Verizon will be just fine without you, and your replacements will be people who are thrilled to have a good job."

You mean once they discover how much of a sweatshop environment Verizon has become there wont be a constant revolving door? Interesting, I think Verizon will discover how many people will leave for greener pastures and it will be a constant vicious cycle.

The company is doing just fine. It's always difficult to have 10,000 managers trying to take the place of 40,000 strikers but the company is hanging in there until they have contractors and strike replacement people in place.

The real news is that the company has a plan to move forward that doesn't involve the union. Union people are finding out that they aren't irreplaceable, and the company has the deep pockets and resources to make the transition from the union workers to a non-union company. There will be some bumps and bruises along the way, but the plan is already being put into place. Verizon will be just fine without you, and your replacements will be people who are thrilled to have a good job.
