Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

It's NOT about the customer

Unions guys please STFU about the customer. Step outside of yourself and this insulated perception how valuable you are. Just like us EWA and everyone else you are NOT an asset... you are a liability. We are the costs that are incurred with business operations.

The network at any given time is 99.9% available. That is what is making money. It doesn't matter if it's down and extra day or 2. The credits issued for interruption is far less than you.

I know it sucks to be quantified to a number as a human being. That is what it is. It's that simple. If anyone tells you different it's smoke up your ass

So if you dont like vz has to offer you might be up sh-- creek with a turd as paddle.

Maybe everyone is wrong. If so that's good for you. If you can ride this out good for you.

Sign it don't sign it. It's no skin off anyone's ass vz probably doesn't want really want you to sign it. It's a PR courtesy move and would rather be staffed with free agents.

It doesn't matter. you will probably will not being working for Vz as you know it in 2 years. Hence the 2018 expiration date. A collective bargaining agreement is a clause in a future contract with another company that needs dealt with.

Hope luck dudes

jpx -- just because a business is dying doesn't mean it just disappears off the face of the earth in a day. Pretty simple.

Even Blockbuster managed to hang around a couple of years with Netflix gradually gobbling up their customer base.

I really like that person that compared the unions to Blockbuster.

Its always about the customer, business 101, its obvious you don't care about the customer to make a foolish statement like you did. You need to rephrase it. You can chug along for so long with that theory, then your toast.

If the wireline is declining why are you idiots out there working countless hours and complaining about it. Someone plz answer that. Why are you struggling to do our job if it's a dying business? And everyone knows your struggling. You tube and personal experience shows it all.

The reason they haven't hired a new tech since 2000 is because that part of the business is shrinking and going away.

It's just like how Blockbuster didn't hire new VCR tape merchandisers for a few years before they went belly up. Luckily Verizon is smart enough to see that wireline is not the technology of the future and they are investing in wireless and media.

The union people today are the Blockbuster cashiers of yesterday. It's only a matter of time until you'll be obsolete if you don't start learning new technologies and embracing them.

Unions don't like change -- they like things to stay the same. Things can sometimes stay the same or close to it in the automobile or airline industries, but not in the technology space. Technology moves in dog years and leaves behind those who don't move with it.

Landline and DSL internet $70...... cell phone bill $254 plus data overages.......over a 40% return, better than a Madoff's ponzi scheme. We're all suckers. Thanks Bill Clinton for deregulation of the phone companies in the 90's. And btw Verizon gave Hilary $225 k for a speech too,

The executives and CEO dont care about the customers, they are more interested in using Verizon as their own little personal piggy bank before they crash the company into the ground. Minimum effort, maximum gain is the VZ executive way!

Nothing is about the customer except how to get as much money for as little in return as possible. That's the VZ way!

Please don't come back with "FIOS is terrestial". They're done with that too.

The landline business is becoming obsolete because of technology. It's unfortunate but a reality.

Sorry,

but the union cannot handle the truth.

The truth, is the wireline is going away.

You will always need the backbone, but not the last mile.

Younger folks will never have a traditional landline.

They may use FIOS, or DSL, but no telephone.

VZ thinks, they can use 5G for the last mile, time will tell.

But, they will always need fewer of you.

26 years employee, 13 years as a construction splicer , installing litespans and slc cabinets, splicing in fiber and installing muxes to run the cell towers and run the trunk lines that all this data goes over. 13 years as a cable maintenance tech, wiping lead sleeves in manholes, repairing back yard lead cables , all nighters working in the freezing cold. The Job was hard but yet gratifying, I enjoyed coming to work.

Today's Verizon, not one new tech since 2000, no one to train to learn these skills that take years to learn, telling the elderly lady that has paid her phone bill for the last 50 years that you're sorry for her poor service because Verizon doesn't care about landlines anymore and they want you to leave even though the company reaped all that cash in and used it to build thier empire. Tour after tour to NYC, customers take a day of off work because we made an appointment but we never show up because the workload is to high. Engineers can't replace old cables and aren't allowed to run cable to new sub divisions or businesses, not economically feasible. Can't order batteries for equipment that needs to have power during a commercial power outage, can't replace defective circuit packs. We have learned how to improvise and give our customers service despite this.

New boss said to me last month "wow, you really care about the job you do, you'll learn"and tells you not to pick up a job after 2pm because if I don't finish it he'll get a FDR widget (first dispatch resolution)and he'll lose his bonus, he wants you to sit around for 2 1/2 hrs doing nothing. That's the new Verizon credo!

I have always took pride in my work and believed if I gave customers good service that they would stay with us and I'd always have my good job but Verizon is committed to killing landlines and its working. Fios is a great product but its a "landline" and the company will sacrifice it to kill the union and its workers. Most of us union slugs are going the extra mile everyday to go around all the roadblocks the company has put up against us, we give people and businesses our cell numbers so they can call us directly because verizon won't dispatch. Our number one complaint is the overseas call centers and the frustration of trying to communicate to someone what there trouble is.

I talked to one of my old bosses yesterday and they said the company is just closing out trouble without fixing them or returning them to cable because they have no idea what to do, yet Tracy Edwards is sending out emails that there productivity is to low. This is all falling into Lowell's master plan to get rid of customers, managers and technicians so he can swim in his vault of gold coins. As a veteran of the military it embarrasses me that Lowell is a veteran too and how he can turn his back on the people and the country that he helped defend. He'll lay on his death bed and wonder if his life meant anything and he'll feel empty inside.

Manager's welcome a Rif and tech's can't wait until they can retire. Lowell, take that 9 billion in the pension fund and send us all checks and we're out of here.

Au contraire mon frere.

If I am the customer I don't want a sick worker coming into my house. Verizon bribes people to come to work sick and spread virus to customers and co-workers. Then they send email about how much they care about your health. Maybe some EWA will get a cold this week and see what it is like standing in the rain when you are sick.

@He1W0pO-cpv ....Verizon is the one who does not care about the customer. Verizon refuses to hire enough people to do the work. Verizon insists on imposing mandatory overtime.

@cpv I agree. Customers know I'm a replacement worker because I'm courteous and responsive

I think you missed my point though .

The union doesn't care about the customer. They only use the customer as a pawn.

I don't see union members caring about the customer when they are working. Not showing up for appointments, being late, calling in sick all the time, and leaving appointments before the work is completed are NOT things that people who care about the customer do!
