Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I just want my husband to come back home.

Enjoy standing next to your wives while you are on strike, your children and eating dinner with your family every night while this continues. I was only married to my husband for three weeks before this began. He is not just a manager. He served our country in the Navy and was working on his MASTER's degree in Project Management so he can better himself and find a job away from Verizon. I agree it is a terrible company but what the Union is doing with their harassment towards my husband and the others is not ok. And you can say all day 'well why doesn't he just get another job if he doesn't like it?' Well, in this state you can spend a year looking for a new job and it's just not going to happen! Watching how the union acts doesn't make me feel sympathy for your fight. All it does is make me think of a lynch mob acting out towards people they don't know because they can't figure out a better way to win this.

@Mblvo As far as your "just went union post", I'll be leaving this company shortly better off financially than any union person in the company ever will. You're just bitter that your pension isn't worth anything anymore and all you do is hope for the EIPP that will never be as good as the VSP. And that's assuming the EIPP ever happens. Bye bye.

He could have saved himself both stress and 6 years of his life if he hadn’t bothered with the master’s degree and just went union.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm also so surprised at all of the FORCED OT people are talking about. My ex said there was no work because of the strike. Guess it was to reduce his child support obligation for his three little kids who not have no medical coverage. Hope the Union comes through and pays their medical bills which he is responsible for. I am also completely turned off by the foul language and derogatory sexual remarks against women. The press would love to see the comments by some of the fine union workers. Derogatory remarks about women, foul language and threats against those who disagree with them will speak loudly in the press. Especially if we soon have a woman president. I doubt they'd have their support now after they/re sent these threads.

Welcome to our side lady. With forced OT some of us hardly get to see our families...Yeah that same OT that forces some of us to to make that 130k salary even if we don't want it.

Your Hubby is not coming home for a long time if ever, get ready to relocate yourself, or find a new man.

I am so not phased by the negative comments. For real. Everyone has gone through hard times in life and this is not my first, so whatever foul language you need to say to beat your big monkey paws against your chest, bravo. I am so impressed. Thank you though to those that do sympathize and are also in the same boat as me.

First off thank him for serving. I to am a veteran and would defend this country forever from both enemies foreign and domestic. A fight where no man is left behind, all for one one for all. With that being said this company and its policies are an enemy of the United States. A domestic one at that. This company Sr. Executive management declared war on the union and middle class American working families. I am sorry that he is away from home but this company does not care one bit about employee families. I am a single dad with 3 daughters. I have missed numerous events as my kids were growing up due to forced overtime and piss poor management. So I get where you are coming from. Unfortunately jobs like these are hard to come by in any state for numerous reasons. If more people would only do work at work and not at home during family time to try and get ahead we probably would not have the issues in this country we do with decent jobs. Unfortunately the rules of engagement are not the same as what the militaries are. Kill or be killed. We have to obey the laws and the harassment is legal. If enough managers get tired of it they will start speaking up to their peers and maybe they will finally listen to America

Oh spare me the tears! Ive been sh--ted on for 9 years. Last 3 were like a sweat shop. Then the boot last june. You dont think my family suffered? 40k after taxes is like saying he makes 90k before taxes. Dont make it sound like he doesnt make much. F--- you and your attempt for a guilt trip. Welcome to the big red!

No, I do know how the union families must have felt prior to this. They have every right to be angry at the company for that but my husband had nothing to do with the CEO's choices. Nothing. So calling him a f----t and whatever else they come up with is stupid. He doesn't want your job, your life, any of it. My point is that directing your anger towards the 12k people that were forced to go up there is ridiculous. Ever since this started ten months ago he has been applying for a new job anywhere he can to avoid this. No one bit. Protest by all means but these mothers, fathers, husbands and wives forced to do your job right now are not the enemy.

My kids haven't seen their daddy in over three weeks. They cry daily. He had no choice but to go and has not yet had a day off since he left. Please for the love all that that's holy end this thing.

Thank you. He is a thousand miles away from me so the best we have right now is Google hangouts on his one day off. He has told me some pretty bad things and for him to say this feels worse than when he was in the Navy for seven years with bootcamp and all....that is pretty stressful to swallow. He doesn't deserve this and he did not have the option to say no. He is the breadwinner in this family while I go to school and work part time. We would have lost everything if he said no and not to mention we live in a very unfavorable apartment complex and go paycheck to paycheck. Whoever thinks he is rolling in money because he is a manager is high. He makes 40k after taxes. Unlike these people who claim they hate greed but .....look at them go wanting more and more with a job that will not even be here in thirty years.

Hate to say this but now you know how all these installers families feel. Blame the company. They were the ones forcing unrealistic overtime on people and they have been doing it for over a year. That's one of the reasons we are walking around pissed and fighting for what's right. If the wireline is really that dead your husband would be home right now. Get it?

I feel for you and wish you nothing but the best. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and he will be home soon. The sad part is the union has some members who are despicable and those few creaton create an unfavorable image of hard working and good people. Hang in there and if this is the worse you endure, you will be lucky. By the way, my wife is working an EWA and I am in a position to go visit her every other night for dinner.
