Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why are there so many VZ Teamers on here apologizing for Verizon's poor or lack of customer service....

and making statements that support Verizon's cutting of employees and benefits? You say that the customer is number one, yet you seem to be in support of contracting out work and shipping jobs overseas, both of which are directly related to unhappy customers. You say that union employees are entitled and don't deserve the benefits they receive, yet the minute Verizon rif's 8,000 wireless employees, Verizon is all of a sudden the bad guy. Which is it??? Do you support keeping jobs in the the U.S.? Or do your prefer they be shipped over seas? Do you support receiving the best possible benefits for yourself and your family? Or do you support continually having to pay more for benefits as "your company" continues to post record profits? Do you really want the best for the customer? Or do you prefer that the customer sees and talks to people who are not even Verizon employees? ARE YOU HAPPY WITH CONTINUALLY GIVING BACK MORE AND MORE AND MORE? WHEN DOES IT STOP?

@lgi is right on. Unions feed on ignorance and complacency. Most of the union people I worked with when I did that sort of work back in the day met that description spot on. When I was new I was even told to my face that after I got into the union I could take my time and the company couldn't do anything about it. Sorry, but that goes against my constitution. No wonder I went for more by going to college and making the most of what God gave me while the rest of them are probably still slinking around the warehouse unless the company finally got smart and got someone better to do their jobs. It was embarrassing to be around those union people and see the attitude and the racism when someone that was not white was able to move up in the org. And this was in the mid-atlantic in case you're thinking I'm a good old boy.

wqj -- you didn't fight for anything, your union bosses did. you just sat there and made your $50k per year or whatever little salary you have. Stop acting like you did anything other go to work and leach off the benefits that were already there.

Higher paid and professional employees don't join unions -- they are for the lower tier workers who historically got taken advantage of because they were too low level or too uneducated to fend for themselves. That's somewhat still true because the average union worker is not able to find other work so they cling to the union whereas professional/educated employees are coveted by companies so it's easier for them to find other work.

@zhw, maybe you're simply not as intelligent as you think you are.....

  • "People are sick and tired of listening to union members bash the company and try to ruin business over things are viewed as extravagant."

  • "most people don't even get pensions."

-"Hell, we all would love to have total job security but no one has that ."

All of these statements are just another way of saying I want it too, but know I'll never get it. The difference is union employees already have it, because unlike yourself and your butt buddy qbd, we fought for it and our work is deserving of it.

gtl -- thank you for solidifying everyone's opinion of the type of person who belongs in the union.

@rva -- I must have missed where qbd said anything about wanting what anyone else has. What I read him/her say is that going on strike over things like that does make anyone feel sorry for you and we are tired of listening to you all whine about it. You're the one whining about the executives not having to pay for their healthcare so you want what they have.

And I didn't read him/her say that if he loses his job everyone should lose theirs -- that is more of a union line of thinking, not non-union where we keep our jobs and get promoted based on merit instead of union socialist seniority.

You are projecting your thoughts on other people. The rest of us are tired of entitled people like you worrying the the CEO makes more money than you or that the CEO doesn't have to pay for his health benefits. If you want the things the CEO has then go get an MBA and earn the job -- it's not going to be handed to you on a silver platter the way you union folks seem to think everything should be.

@dmb, did qbd's post make you cum?

@qbd, so in summary, because you and your fellow VZ Teamers don't have it (and never had the backbone to fight for it), no one should. So when you lose your job in the next month or two, everyone should lose their job. Yet you have no problem with the executives who are making millions not paying a single cent towards their healthcare. I would suggest seeking help from a good therapist, but your wonderful company benefits package probably doesn't cover that. Continue to enjoy living in your "if I can't have it, no one can world."

It's doesn't stop.

Greed by Definition....An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth.

An intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power.

I read the thread I think you're talking about, and in that thread a union person posted a bunch of customer complaints blaming them on the EWAs. Some other posters corrected him and let him know that VZ gets complaints year round, not just when a strike is going on.

In my opinion you are being way overdramatic. People are sick and tired of listening to union members bash the company and try to ruin business over things are viewed as extravagant. You're complaining about "gutting the pension" when all they are doing is limiting to 30 years; most people don't even get pensions. You're complaining about "gutting healthcare" when the company is simply asking you to contribute towards the sky rocketing costs like the rest of the company does.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of listening to you people complain and walk off the job over things that are nice to have, then be overdramatic about how horrible the company is when the rest of us get none of the things you're whining about. Hell, we all would love to have total job security but no one has that -- our job security is doing a good job every day.

And spare me about how the company is ruining customer satisfaction when the only thing ruining it is the union walking off the job and leaving your mess for the rest of us to clean up. I'm so tired of listening to you narcissitic people whine about everything when you are 90% of the problem.
