Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

If you are miserable right now contact your local CWA and thank them.

The Union has managed to screw up the lives of almost the entire Verizon Wireline company.

The EWA and CWA people are all SOL. The CWA are for all practical purposes unemployed. The EWA are living a life of complete hell until they can get back to their normal lives.

Everyone who is miserable right now can thank the union. This is the fault of the union 110%.

This is why companies are so against unionization and hiring people that have been in unions. Bad attitude, bad work ethic, bad everything.

Seems like AT&T was smart to keep the CWA divided by regions so that no one part of the company could go on strike and disrupt normal business flow. Verizon's Union employees definitely have more leverage because there's unity in the agreement whether you're Potomac, NY/NJ, New England, or Pennsylvania. Sorry AT&T Union employees, you wish that you could be Verizon Union employees.

I guess the CWA just likes Verizon more, and always will.

I've been a proud union member for 30 years, I've been a union steward fighting for fairness and equality, it's been an uphill battle. Up until now I thought CWA had our best interests in mind. They don't!! The majority just voted down the 1st tentative agreement that would have been the beginning of the end for all journeyman technicians. But don't worry! Our bargaining team along with att and a federal mediator are back at it and bargaining in good faith for its members. Now the 2nd tentative agreement is out and they changed the minimal they could get away with to try and sway the vote to 51% Did we get approached as to why we voted no? Does the cwa have our best interests in mind? Well, if they did they would have asked us what we didn't like about the agreement. It's clear now that cwa is a business and att is they're most valued customer. Like any business, you want to keep your customer happy at any expense. We're the expendables, the communication workers of america.(not the cwa) When this behind closed doors spooning is over between att and cwa and the hard working Americans get bent over once again, I among many others will look forward to withdrawing from the union and forwarding those dues to a local charity. If your looking for a union buster, look no further than The cwa.

I have worked hard all my life - never had to join a union. I have always been treated fairly and make a lot more money based off my experience and work ethic. Take your experience and skills and get a job where the only thing you need to worry about is what you are getting these contracts for the masses are archaic and from a time when people where truly mistreated and abused. Anyone making $76,000 a year average is far from poverty.

You can blame the unions or blame the greedy upper management who are attwmlting to sell all out futures to the highest bidder. You are getting a taste of sweathshop conditions call center reps and outside like techs had to endure working their lives away and not having time for their families, much like yourself. I feel for you, but Verizon should have ramped up on hiring more people prior to the strike to give us some relief, but due to their greed and shortsidedness, it was not to be. Don't blame the union for Verizon trying to pass an inferior contract proposal which is more of the same padding corporate greed.
