What makes this situation different is the union workers are from the weakest part of the company financially. The other strikes you mention involve workforces that really impacted the company's bottom line.
This strike doesn't impact Verizon's bottom line at all.
If we (the Union) are so unneeded why doesn't the company just lock us out, pay the unemployment immediately until whenever and then say 'sayonara', you overplayed your hand.
We'll be back...it's more a matter of when, not if.
At 40,000 we're already an overworked skeleton crew of a company and with the EWA and contractors they're trying to pull the same workload with even less. Let us know how it works out for you in a couple of weeks Lowell. All I know is that when we come back with that no-concession contract the overtime is going to be epic!

Same thing was said EVERY OTHER contract. The worst thing that can happen, besides losing pay, is we goto impasse. If that happens and it is held up in court, which will be hard to prove, we come back to the same contract that's on the table now. Our jobs will be there regardless. Your asking us to get on our knees, like many of you have done by working your ewa, and beg. NO, we as a union will stand up and fight for what we believe. Win or lose we still have our pride and dignity. Most of you white collar people have no fight in you. That's why you take it, in the you know what, far to often. Please stop worrying about us union folk, We can take care of ourselves. We voted as a group to go on strike. We were well aware what was at risk and now we have our fight. If anything you should be rooting for us. We WILL set the tone for YOUR compensation, just like we always have.

The managers working my area are all software people. They are nice people, they dont want to be here and they would be fired if they were not here. They wave. No reason to get mad at them. Exactly show me a case where a union was able to come out of a strike with the perfect contract with less than 1/5 ownership of the profit. If they bust the union...wireline will be easier to sell.
