Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Illusions of Grandeur and Divorced from Reality

This goes to both EWA and the union employees. The reality is that non union have benefitted from collective bargaining agreements. Union employees need to acknowledge they don't have magical unlearnable skills. Fact is there is a surplus of people that can perform these tasks.

EWA existing knowledge translate well to inside jobs. Doughy office workers are struggling. Contractors WITH skills and experience will be the stop gap. Look at the media...there are no headlines that vz elimated healthcare for 100k employees.

vz is another media company with Beau coup advertising dollars. vz is a partner with the government. In the court of public opinion the vz offer is better than what vast majority of what most Americans have.

This is the seed of resentment and the sense of entitlement leaves a bad taste in people's mouth.

The fact is Wall St and investment bankers love union busting. On both sides..stop be douche bags. Everyone is going to get screwed.

Please stop thinking that the backlash is coming. impasse and contingency plans are in the works. The timeline and agenda has been set for a union free company to be sold or bartered.

I understand you thought this was going to be the last job you ever had. That is something worth fighting for. It's admirable you rather go out with a fight rather than fizzle out with attrition or a merger/sell off.

The free agents currently with a ewa are not ignornant if the rifs. Our relationship with vz is a fling. Not a marriage expecting life long support. Chanting rif and you are being used and you're a shill is comical.

Screaming at the ewa managers is misdirected. Do you think they call and email Lowell? It's a joke now. A big expensive joke.

Good luck and I hope you get what's fair.

The posts on this board have been mostly one sided, From the union.

two the office is not destroying the union or good jobs.

The big issue as I see it is job security.

But realize as important as job security is (I do not have it), so is having the right mix of people at the right location.

Come Union Leadership, BOD, come to a compromise.

This strike is not helping the EWA'ers or the union members.

Imagine this, Corporations forced to maintain their own armies to protect their interests. Trump said why should we fight when America has not connection. Corporations are less and less American.

The post was not intended to be condescending or marginalize the intent. It was to help dose both sides with reality. this was planned and calculated. The moment Union leadership flinched last year, vz had the upper hand. Vz was given more time to plan and ease the ones who actually own vz is what is/was about to be played out.

The longer this goes on the better the replacements become. This is not to disparage the hardworkING union employees. vz is a business and social contracts are not in the agenda. Vz had outsourced and offshore every other unit. This is just another asset of the business that needs cost control.

I understand this more about a labor movement and it's bigger than just the fine print. However the pro labor candidate did not get the pluraility. If you got the will to stick it out perhaps the tide will change. However time is on vz side not the unions side.

Good luck.

Who is going to enlist and fight for this country when with millions upon millions of Americans living with a government that is not working for them. Corporations that are influencing government taking away from the American people day by day. The government is losing its middle class tax base. Losing many people who once cared greatly about this country because they felt they were in it. They wont be in the fight for the banks and wall st. or for the rich to reap the benefits, while they don't see a brighter future.

when corporations win, the country loses...the sh-- will the fan when there is no tax base left to fund bloated, do-nothing politicians, build roads and buy bombs...and when the 99%'ers need to choose between food and that fancy new apple iphone...hopefully the voters wake up soone rather than later

It's just like with Bernie Sanders, all the sellouts don't understand. Bernie is just the start of a movement to take our country back.

"The fact is Wall St and investment bankers love union busting. On both sides..stop be douche bags. Everyone is going to get screwed."

Those are the words of a defeated man. Those are the words of a coward.

They love Union busting? Well we love Wall st. Busting and Bank Busting!

Obviously Wall Street and Banks are the enemy of the American Worker. A lot of people are waking up to that. You can see it by the success of Sanders in surpassing expectations, and in a misguided way you also see it in the success of Trump

Occupy wall street was the 1st try, Bernie Sanders was the 2nd. We are going to keep pushing and one day we will knock you down!

I don't support the condescension towards the union; I do however agree with -zpy's post that this entire thing is scripted at the highest levels.

Completely one sided post with a lot of condescension to Union workers. There really wasn't much of anything positive said about the Union at all.

In any case, it is useless to lecture Union workers here, the contract is in the hands of Union leadership, so it doesn't matter even if you succeed in discouraging people on this board. And let's face it you won't. Do Union posters change the mind of you Verizon shills? Does the company pay you guys to come on every day and try to convince people to give up? What if the company decided to lower your salary? While they were making profits. Wouldn't you try to fight it if you could? Maybe you wouldn't.

Unless you work in wireline yourself, you don't know the work atmosphere that has been created, you don't know the Union busting and harassment that has gone on. You have no idea. You don't know the lies and dishonesty.

Myself, I would be willing to go down with the ship. As you say, go down with a fight. I believe Verizon will do irreparable damage to their brand if they succeed in busting the Union... you claim nobody cares. I guess we will find out who is right.

I will tell you this much, you really don't know a lot about the people you are lecturing.

Sorry you EWA's got screamed at, I hope you will be ok. But the fight has barely even started.

Completely in agreement with OP. VZ has a plethora of accountants that have calculated exact costs of EWA OT and will make the necessary RIFS to cover. They also know the exact amount of money they're saving daily/weekly/monthly from each milestone date from day 1 to benefit removal date to contractor replacement date. They know the amount of credits they'll issue to customers for inconvenience. They know the a,out of money they'll lose from customer backlash. They know the savings amount from not paying union going forward. They have given these numbers to the key investors/note holders. It's not a blind decision...it's a very calculated one, and one they have a very specific plan for. Union has tons of accountants too and know their costs, the cost of possible loss of members, the cost if they agree to the current bad deal, etc. At the highest levels of union and corporation they discussed all of this. The working class union members and 'managers' are just pawns in the game that has already been put in motion to play out.

Thank you for posting one of the best comments this board has seen since the strike. Both sides need to realize we are all in this together, and we shouldn't be boasting about all the money we are making and that we still have healthcare during this work stoppage. And the other side should not be hoping EWA workers who were already employed by Verizon and had no choice in their EWA assignment will be riffed after the work stoppage. Everyone needs to grow up and think how they would feel if the shoe was on the other foot.
