Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Bobby Mudge just dropped the hammer...

(and I don't mean it in some lame EWA joke reference). I truly feel bad for the good union folks whose lives are never going to be the same with regard to Verizon.

It's all good. Actually have a few offers of work. If it's long term like the EWArs say I can pick up more perminant employment. So it's,really a win win.

Then again my contact on the inside says there's little substance to what's being said here.

The email talked about long term plans. Basically without the union. Talked a out gaging interest amongst people in EWA assignments who may want to stay etc...said no plans for vacation through June and also don't plan anything for July or August either and reiterated that the company made their final offer

Resume has already been cleaned up and I'll start applying. I have no loyalty to Verizon and I think if this lasts till 6/1 you'll start to hear many accepting other job offers. Many obviously drink the kool aid and are happy doing EWA not just for money but "delivering for our customers". VZ is a joke.

Where are the online heckling union trolls, now? CAT got your tongue?

If you come to work the email is there on your pad/laptop.

He basically said that since the last best offer, there has been no movement from the union. Since that is the case, plan on staying in your ewa for the next 8 weeks and we are hiring contractors to replace you as this creeps on.

It reads as if the company is ok with not having union here.

It's called a negotiating tactic....Smudge is playing "bad cop". NLRB won't allow workforce replacement in bad faith. Maybe the Union should become more vocal, more demonstrative, have some marches, shut down work sites, lobby other trades to honor the pickets as well as general strikes. VZ can ratchet up the bluster and bravado, so can the Union.

That is funny my friend. Wireline needs you and will not let you go without a fight; the dept was under staffed when we were in attendance. You honestly think the work load is running as it should? ??????? / I know someone who could get u out of there.

Wow , that email left me stumped. Another 8 weeks of ewa work. As I write this from a Verizon sh--ter, I have to wonder how long these union families will hold out. 4% already crossed the lines and I really hoe more do just to hurry up and finish this.

Why not just post the email for all to see?

What do them mean by "We’ll also gauge interest from employees who may be willing to stay on an EWA full time."? Are they asking us to accept demotions to Tech?

Time to dust off the resume. 6/30 is too long, and unlike the union I am more than happy to take my talents elsewhere

I want to thank those on the inside who are spilling the beans on what the company is trying to do. If this goes on for as long as you say it does, instead of crossing the picket lines many unions folks will be finding other places of employment. I feel bad for all the temps, eventually the company will give you the shaft as well by outsourcing as much as they can to slave wage workers in other countries leaving you without a job. All this will do is drive the standard of living down for people in this country as well. If corporations continue to get their way and no one puts up a fight in this country stopping them from outsourcing jobs like they are trying to do, I fear this country will into a 3rd world country with no middle class left. Enjoy it while you can I guess.

EWAs told to look for relief after June and not to schedule vacation in July or August. So long CWA. It was fun while it lasted.

That was on long email.... Hope they start the hour reductions before 6/30. I just gave up all hope of a settlement.

The email he just sent out left little to no doubt as to the direction this is going. Put aside all the company and Union bravado and talking only about strategy, in short it says this is the real deal and no more effort will be put toward it. A take it or leave it plan that extends thru the summer until the workforce is ultimately replaced by contractors and off shore call centers.

If you're on the union side, look past the chants and clichés and see it for what it really is. They won't be caving this time. Apparently they've measures the risk and are willing to go.

If you're on EWA, it's going to be a long vacationless summer with long hours.

This will end this fall or winter.

Good luck to all, if you're reading this on a picket line, you should be looking for alternate sources of income, it's gonna be a long one for sure. More than just a month or two or three

Final, last offer. Take it, or leave... that's the hammer.

It was basically a plan to ride this thing out long term. Includes EWA people potentially staying til 6/30 and bringing in contractors to eventually replace them.

I guess I knew the company was serious this time around, but his email just made it REAL. I can stick it out through June, but I'm glad they're working to relieve us.
