Thread regarding Follett layoffs

GM losing key people

Lots of planners and buyers leaving GM. Who'd be crazy enough to take those positions? Hello cheap tees and more sox.

GM has sucked for years. Disappointment after disappointment seeing the garbage they send. And the stores are left to hear the comments from customers.

I think that every day as I am driving to work, no reason to work hard at this company

The whole strategy in GM was bring in recent grads or interns as purchase order entry or asst buyer, then promote on a career path thru planning and replenishment. There is no one left in PO area to promote, as they cut all of the positions. The 3 ladies left are not going to be there forever.

And asst buyers and new planners are tired of being worked to death. The hours they are asked to work are awful- no job is worth seven days a week. Plus, there are no more bonuses. Why work so hard when there is absolutely no reward at the end of the road? Last year, when they lowered the GM bonus plan, they did offer an increase to planners. But the huge lure in the retail side of any company is the larger bonus plan to make up for the extra time invested in growing sales. You're right, many of the younger team left because it's a stepping stone. But for at least one person, why stay when Follett let your spouse go from her position? What loyalty remains then?

People are leaving in every area at Follett.

Finance, Accounting, Payroll and Treasury are a stepping stone.

Get some experience and move on.

Not many with YEARS of Follett experience.

Lots of employees leaving Follett period. Those in GM are young and hungry for advancement. They get some experience and move on. This is a stepping stone job for successful people. It is a dead end as a career.
