Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What the strikers don't get

When it comes down to it, Verizon is going to do what it wants, Union or not. These stories of keeping a building open for 5-6 union employees is not cost effective and anyone with half a business sense knows that. Verizon has zero reasons to budge on this. Laugh at the EWA workers all you want but the longer you hold out, the better they get at your jobs.....then training those new contractors along with the smart union scabs will be so much easier.

On top of that, your salary to answer phone calls (Roughly in the neighborhood of $70,000) is unheard of. If Verizon locks the union members out I guarantee you there is no plan B that will pay you as much as Verizon did especially since most of those call center workers have no degrees. A standard non-union call center representative makes $13-$15 an hour....... expect that when you go looking for your new non-union job.

Is this company perfect......hell no. No company is perfect, Lowell and the executives are over compensated and yes the company could pay a little better on the non-Union side but it is a pretty damn good company besides that.

The sooner you guys realize there are no job guarantees in this scenario and just go back to work......the happier us EWA'ers will be to go home and get back to our normal job.

Why should the company add more people to the smaller call centers to make them viable? First, it is much cheaper for the company to do business with all of their employees in one location. Second, why would they want to hire call center workers at such a high cost? The technical call centers, I get. But all the others should be hired at the average pay for their skill set. IF they're then not happy with the pay, or location, they can use TAP and the other online (forget instructor led, those days are gone) courses Verizon provides to gain skills and move into the higher paying call centers or field positions.

The only caveat with that is the Union will have to focus not on how much there workers earn, but how the company "grades" the workers. We all know how easy it is to get a does not meet.

They should add more employees to those call centers. Instead they add more job overseas

As a Union member I completely agree with the OP, especially when you call the internal call centers, it's attitude city. I do think the Union is correct inregards to outsourcing, the trouble is they decided to align with a political loser in Sanders. If they truely want to be a part of a supposed revolution, use the political fund for lobbying, but for now, get us back to work.

Those are your views. I don't see it that way. To bad you EWA's can't go back to "normal jobs". Maybe you should get use to it. There maybe no "normal jobs" anymore at Verizon. As you stated there are no jog guarantees .

For years now, Kirk Cameron has shared the secrets to leading your best, most repressed and unsatisfying life, whether it be getting the most joy out of the holidays, so you can fully concentrate on Jesus Christ, or just ensuring all of your former friends turn against you, over your hateful stance on gays. But in a new interview with the Christian Post, the former Growing Pains star and forever pain in the asshas shared some of his secrets to making sure your marriage is a miserable slog to the afterlife as well.

“Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband’s lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband,” Cameron says in the profile quoted by People. After all, if you want the loving partnership between you and your God-sanctioned woman to last, it’s important that the woman never say anything that could lead to a disagreement over how just how wrong the woman is. There will be plenty of time to say things when you are both in Heaven, and your mouths have been transformed into glowing shafts created solely for giving hosannas to the Lord.

Still, completely disregarding your wife’s feelings doesn’t mean your relationship can never grow or adapt—at least, according to the man who’s read the Bible’s many baffling internal contradictions and said, “That’s cool, let’s preach that.” According to Cameron, “When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage.” Indeed, by completely setting aside the specifics of how badly the wife may be treated by her husband, a marriage has the potential to change from something merely suffocating to out-and-out abusive. It’s a lifelong process, and among the only kinds of evolution Kirk Cameron believes in.
