Fighting for job security is ok but you need to realize your jobs will be extinct within 5-10 years if not sooner. You can't expect Verizon to give you guys a lifetime achievement award and hand you jobs when the fact is they just won't you need in years to come.

Wow. Looks like Wireless employees are very temperamental. Get all upset over very mention of that division in a conversation. Guess having no protection and being laid off any time Verizon feels to puts a shiver in ya.
Ok true enough it has been a while for a cell site install. But this ethernet you speak of is that not delivered by wire, or cable, aka landline to the cell site? Main difference being it is installed by non-union.
I worked in specials in a major metropolitan area. Loads of customers rely on t1s working through the verizon owned network. No major business I know of being conducted via wireless and ipads. Many types of special circuits still exist in the city. Many of them cannot work on digital, Verizon is attempting to abandon these customers. Some of these customers know their rights and are not having it.
On the POTS/FIOS side there was literally TONS of work in the year leading up to strike. I don't think they will get rid of wireline in major metropolitan areas anytime soon. I suppose they will abandon rural residential customers to wireless, which is a shame because good HSI options could revitalize many dying towns.
But what does Verizon care about that? They are not some utility. Internet is optional!

Lets do the math. Lowell sold off BR, cell towers. Selling central offices. Laid off approx 8,000 wireless asskissers in December. Farming more work overseas. Would NEVER do that to wireless.

It's a good thing you used the past tense of install, installed, because that is exactly right. Wireless backhaul has been all but converted to Ethernet over the past 5 years. I too was one of those that installed t1 cuts to cell sites and it was a majority of our work... visiting a site once a month to install multiple ckts. Now, we are lucky to see a job at a cellsite install twice a year. WAKE UP, we worked ourselves out of jobs installing new technology.
Never stepped foot in a cellsite huh? I am the one who installed the ts for that site. True I prefer when the dmarc is further from the tower. Let you company men soak up that radiation.

Stripped and sold of all wireline assets like a stolen car, used it to fund wireless,
paid no taxes, lobbied to end social security, and now they want to finish the job.

Then the customers can start their own ISP or look to suppport another. Just like you can find a new job. VZ doesn't owe a service to anyone it was their choice to leave telecom. I don't personally support it but anyone with a brain would realize that the union is dragging out a fight they can't possibly win. Look at the history of strikes that suceeded and you will see a common theme. The union brought the company to its knees because by walking out the had a substantial impact on the bottom line. The union had control over the majority of that bottom line. Now look at this strike. The CWA is using the same tactics they would use if they actually owned a majority of the profit for the company, but in reality they don't even come close. Your union leaders are still getting paid, the execs are still getting paid. The only ones losing this pissing match are the union and the EWA. Sign the contract, put some money under the matress, and them move the f--- on. Your job will not exist here in 5 years and more than likely neither will mine.
They don't understand it because they they are just spouting union rhetoric, they have never stepped foot in a cellsite. There are companies out there that have been stringing miles of fiber to grab the wireless backhaul money. Many sites here in NJ are served by 2 or more carriers.

Just hanging in for my lump sum and then I am out. After that Verizon can burn all their money on go90 2.0 for all I care.
That's all fine and dandy from the company point of view but tell that to the millions of costumes who do care.
You do realize that they can keep the connectivity between wireless towers while still removing the VAST majority of your jobs, right? You people don't seem to get that. VZ still cares about the main transport layer they just don't give a sh-- about the last mile. That point is so moot.
Yeah because we all know that FiOS and the wireless network that runs on wireline are all dead technologies.
How about a thumb print award....is that an option if the lifetime achievement is off the table?
