"anyone who thinks the road to success at vz is paved with hard work doesn't have a clue anout what really goes on here...the secret is to be the loudest BS artist you can be...let the others do the work"

Exactly my point, the less you know, the further you go in my department even though you are supposed to have some sort of technical expertise to do that job, many of the managers there don't since they had a sales backgroundnbefore. Hard work has nothing to do with career advancement at VZ, being a yes man and a glad hander sure does though!

J'ai peur de ne pas pouvoir vous aider avec la traduction mais je crois que l'expression anglaise est au courant. Sarcastiquement on dit, "You're a regular riot."

"I love it how the people who don't do a good enough job to get promoted blame the people who do for being asskissers.

People will justify their inability to get ahead however they can. The problem is always with "everyone else" and never with them."

I think it was just explained that people who do get career advancement arent necessarily doing a "good job" but just knew how to smooze over the right manager to get ahead. I have also seen people that were unable to meet metrics for the position they were hired for get shifted to other positions instead of being let go. If you do a good job and actually know what you are doing at your job in my department, you get pingeonholed/stay stuck where you are and they dont allow you to move anywhere.

1xbh sounds very clueless. This person seems to think people can advance their own careers without the need to deal with gatekeepers and people above them who already have their established "teachers pets". The joke is on this favortism supporter. Lol

@pvu: No, it didn't. What possible reason could someone have to not be able to look for another job?

If you are miserable in your current job, sticking around and complaining about everything isn't going to magically make it better. NY, NJ and other places have tons of businesses there; if you can't find another job you're either lazy or not good at what you do.

@ 1jwh, "Your view is typical of people who aren't successful. They have disdain for people who ARE successful and create a cynical "everyone is against me" mentality to justify their inability to get ahead."

I have alot of disdain for asskissers, yes men and brown nosers, so yes you are correct. Pandering to others is how these people get ahead. To me it's the most repulsing thing i have ever seen, seeing other human beings grovel and stoop to that level. If getting ahead and being successful means I have to stoop to the same level and do the same things as I discribed, then I don't want it and dont need it. Too much pride for that crap. How good of a job we do should speak for itself.

1jwh , You are ignorant. Did it ever occur to you that people just can't pick and find another job due to their personal situation?

People with any sense would go find another company to work for if they believed the things you do. But I guess it's easier to sit in the same place and just complain about everyone else than it is to get off your assand go find something better.

@ nqa, from my experience the only people that get career advancement within that company are those that kiss the rump of their direct supervisor or 3rd level management the hardest and the most. People that actually work hard and have great stats/metrics get the shaft while the other "yes men" that don't do anything other than being a management favorite gets the career advancement. In the FSCs it is "the less you know, the further you go." Proof in that is seeing all these managers from the CSSC and BSBC becoming FSC Management and Directors when they have absolutely zero technical support experience.

nqa , and there is a reason why people have a negative view of you. You lump people together, an ignorant thing to do. You assume that all union people don't work hard. You can't be that stupid. Maybe you hang around with only lazy union people. Birds of a feather........

I agree OP. These fat cats don't know what the hell they are doing and have absolutely no plan whatsoever. It's the blind leading the blind and they are messing with our jobs.

Our leadership has absolutely no idea what we're going through nor do they care. The leadership should be going without pay or benefits just like we are so they know how it feels, but instead they are basically just playing God with our lives. I'm tired of it.

I dunno...I've lasted through about six of the strikes and you people always say the same things.

In my career if I did get RIF'ed (which does happen), I have the skills to join another company, and the years with the company to get a great severance. That's the great thing about not having union baggage and actually earning my job and promotions through hard work -- it allows me to have other opportunities instead of chaining my welfare to the union ball and chain.

There's something to be said for working hard. And if I don't like my job, I find another one instead of sitting around complaining and refusing to do my job like a big baby. Unfortunately the union people I know are lazy, reactive people who do the bare minimum to get by and then whine/complain about EVERYTHING. There is a reason people have such a negative view of union employees and why someone like you will never get hired by another company into any kind of position requiring responsibility.

EWAers at least have income to buy meals, and the company is actually paying for some pretty nice meals while EWAers are busy cleaning up the mess left by the union.

When I came to work at Verizon everyone would say "oh God, you have to work with union people" and I never really understood what they meant. I do now.

Yep, and VZ is catering all EWA meals. Yum.

Funny that the people telling everyone to starve still have their paychecks and benefits.
