What if, behind closed doors, this was all planned by the company's management and union's management. Strike just long enough for the company to save the money to meet the demands of the union with a little extra to make up for short-term financial losses. Surely the company can't afford to lose 39,000 trained workers and surely the union can't afford to lose 39,000 dues paying members? Right?????

Right. The real question remains, and that one is what the pawns end up with?
The union screwed up in 2011 and their leadership knows this hasn't been forgotten in the least. They simply must come up with a decent contract, even if it's the very last one with VZ on the Eastern Front...
I think that has happened in the past. I hope if that's true it is almost over.
