Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Management abandoning ship due to the forced overtime being pushed on them and being away from their families too much

Sounds like some management people are abandoning ship and quitting due to the excessive forced overtime being pushed on them due to the strike. I guess things appear different when the shoe is on the other foot doesn't it. Overtime should never be forced, should always be voluntary. If the company can't handle the workload with the people they already have, they need to hire more people or allow people that want to work the OT to volunteer for it. OT should never be forced on people that don't need it or want it.

EWA'er you are welcome for your double time. That was something the union bargained for a long time ago. Do you honestly think Verizon is that generous. And you guys hate the union.

1paw , and what do you do with political, and public pressure? ignore it? and what about Verizon' s brand name? Do you realize like the union Verizon is taking a postion. The worker vs the corporation. How do you think that going to pan out?

Another 10000 EWAers are being given assignments this week. This company is prepared to take this out to Christmas if need be, but the line of thought is they will have permanent replacements out there by August and the union will be history.

blah blah blah. Everyone in the Union has already worked 12 hour days 7 days a week and we have done it longer than you EWA. The first two weeks are easy. Talk to us in another three weeks. Yes you will be making insane money, but you will also BE INSANE. Take it from someone who knows. Space madness begins around week 4.

At least your manager can work in the field as a technician. Some of those managers know nothing about technology. My husband is an EWAer. His garage boss is a jerk. He knows sh-- about Fios, copper, landline. He also had one week vacation during this strike. I told my husband if this guy stab my husband's back again I am going to write a report to Basking Ridge let them open an investigation on his so called vacation. No wonder nobody want to cross in his garage.

I and many others haven't gotten our first EWA assignments yet. The company has more to give. I don't think the union realizes what they are up against.

Lets not start stupid rumors. Everyone where I am is tired, of course we are, we have been working 12 hours days for almost 3 weeks but no one, not one single person where I am at is talking about quitting their job. Most have 15+ years with the company in whatever capacity they are in and it is simply too much to give up. So let's not spread too much nonsense. Quite frankly, I think most of you all that went on strike are good people in a really bad situation. I can be empathetic to that because if I was worried how to take care of my kids i would be frightened and very angry. Yes I'm sure I will hear the inevitable "When you get RIF'ed" mantra that permeates this forum. Fact is, I have been under the threat of layoff since 2000. Im still here. I don't worry about things like that anymore. It's part of working in America these days. I really truly hope things work out for each and everyone of you on strike. I truly do. We are all human beings at the end of the day.

Nah, I'll skip the ice cream -- I don't want to look like the rotund picketers we're getting to see so much of these days.

I'm taking the family out for a nice steak dinner. Protein/muscle > ice cream/fat.

Why do people post "sounds like..." types of BS with no link as fact?

Some of you have some really wishful thinking. The managers you're speaking of are making a boatload of money and I have yet to find one who is anything close to abandoning ship.

I know that it's rough that you no longer have a paycheck or benefits, but I can assure you those of that do have those things have never been more dedicated. It's a shame that the union is pissing away jobs that your peers at other companies would kill for. But that's the direction you took so unfortunately you're going to have to live with it.
