Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Resigning from the union is suicide. When we go back you will be a target not only from Co workers but the company as well. They will say thank you for crossing but you don't have a job anymore and the union won't do anything for you because you resigned. The only option right now is to try and live in a glass house and put whatever faith I have left in the union. I think this offer is OK and I would say yes to it. It's getting serious now and I blame the union for mid month stupidity strike.

Guu. thanks for answering me with civil response Recorded calls are another way for them to harrass you and to try and catch doing something wrong. Just because they own the phones and trucks doesnt mean they have to constantly harrass and record or listen in on you. Im the only one amongst my friends and two brothers who are recorded yet all of their employers own their phones and some of the work vehicles verizon just takes sh-- to the next level all the time just not their fios that they refuse to take to next level it would involve hiring and not firing

First, thank you for your service. Now to address some of your issues that you're obviously fired up about, easy one first. The problem is, the individuals are relying on the Union to fight the harassment issue. If you're 100% in the right, file the harassment charges yourself as an individual.

Monitoring. If you're using a Verizon phone or vehicle for company purposes, why shouldn't the company be able to monitor you? Verizon owned them! If you're not using them for company purposes, well, you're breaking the code of conduct. Use your personal cell-phone on break and save the shopping trip for after work.

Jobs being a right... Yeah... No. The government already has enough regulations regarding employment, thankful they haven't said that a buisness MUST employee someone who is not needed. The logic in that should be pretty clear. We are all just a way for Verizon, or any employer, to make money. If an employee doesn't create more income than he or she costs, there is no need for that employee.

By staying out for a better contract then that slop. I am putting my family first brain surgeon. If i am willing to settle for sh-- how is that benefiting my family in the long run . Im sure lowell wasnt offered 18 million a year at first but he wanted more and bargained or plead or stomped his foot or whatever to get a little more. Which in turn benefits his family. Ya see the differance is when a ceo or an athelete ask for more money its ok because the are already wealthy but when poor or middle class ask for more they are nasty ungrateful and greedy

Your telling me i should be grateful to be harrassed all day have my conversations recorded and my balls busted for idling for two minutes thats a god damn priviledge after fighting for this god damn country in iraq. I hope and pray thousands more cross the line Monday/Tuesday if the Union heads decide their members have to stay out. Who doesn't put family first in this day? AND, who are they representing anyway? Those with young children or those with 20+ years and don't rely heavily on medical (although being there myself, they should)l. We are not living in the 50's and it's a very fair contract! None of us working in the trenches know the truth to what is going on. There are 3 sides, yours, mine and the truth somewhere in-between. My bet is they will announce tomorrow to go back and work with mediation. The CWA's own site says they are determining their next step.

Let the bashing start ..... it's sickening how adults act on social media, both sides. No wonder kids struggle in schools with it. How about start being role models within your home or does your Union leaders expect that from you as well?

@gft Give the "should have put money aside" a rest. Should families have an emergency fund? Absolutely! However, not everyone gets to collect unemployment or has a union strike fund, we are talking THOUSANDS of dollars, just in the first month! This is coming from someone who is single and has plenty in savings. I don't wish to spend it on the Unions political cause and would like to save it for a true emergency. One thing is for sure, I will be writing to object to the non-chargables when this is all over.

Whoever is on strike should have known this was coming. If they cared about their family they had some money put aside for this already. I don't want to sound callous but it's true.

as well to all the EWA's who are doing a new job function that can be dangerous . They are also putting their life on the line , that will impact their families. Many are put in a difficult position each and every day of their lives that will greatly affect their family. They do it because they must.
