Scab Management & EWA's.......

Times are tough for us union folks. Sitting poolside enjoying a wonderful steak dinner with my family. I know, I know, you're living large at the Motel 6, all by your lonesome. Hell, I'll bet some of you crazy guys even got yourself an escort with all of that extra money. Wow, am I jealous!

Actually, us EWA people are living large at Hyatt's, many of us with our families over for vacation using the swimming pools - and us EWA people getting days off as well. All while making enough money to have one mega-vacation when it's over. First a company paid vacation at our EWA sites with our families visiting - then a real vacation later in the year from the money earned. That's the real picture, not people sitting at the Motel 6 alone.

EWA is for emergency work assignment.

We all get 1 day off per week (some do not take it). Out of town folks get more time. They can fly home once a month or fly in a family member on the corp amex.

I am home, but last strike i stayed in a 2 room suite in Virginia. Plus cash for lunch dinner each day. It is not that bad. Plus the OT at 1.5x our salary equivalent hourly rate is nice. I make $52 per hour and OT is around $78. And that is about 30-50 hours of ot each week. I see my family every night.

@oah, I don't work for Verizon either but I believe it stands for enhanced work assignment. EWA is basically a nice way of saying SCAB. Most of these workers on EWA seem to be managers that are usually sitting around drinking coffee while the workers work, or non-union employees that are not generating any type of revenue from their real jobs, so they are kicked out into the field putting their own lives and the public's lives in danger. Sounds like a great company to work for, maybe if there were no other jobs available on the planet.

All you EWA's what are you doing posting on here when you finally get some time off? Prioritize your life. Your job that you then your family. How important is this board to you that you come in on your off time or your day off? Your family that you have not seen should take precedence.

"It's funny to see uneducated, non-degreed, lower middle class trailer dwellers start mouthing off."

LOL. I hate to break it to you but the vast majority of folks hired by Bell Atlantic in 1998-2000 (the last big wave) had college degrees to begin with...they were given a very strong preference during the selection process.

And quite a few of them have utilized tuition assistance to move their education even further on...

These union people really are as stupid as their reputation. At least stupid enough to talk trash about money when they don't even have jobs (and made a blue collar salary when they did).

It's funny to see uneducated, non-degreed, lower middle class trailer dwellers start mouthing off. I bet they can't wait until they can go back to work and afford to take the family out to that super-special, twice-a-year fancy eating place like Red Lobster or Olive Garden.

EWArs are you really that board that you feel the need to justify your pay to some anonymous troll possibly posing as a union person ?

OP... Glad the weathers warm enough down south for you to have the pool open. Up here in NY the weathers hasn't been that good not good enough to open the pool yet for me. Why don't you enjoy your steak , enjoy your time with the family give them all of your attention instead of posting here. Enjoy the pool, take a dip and soak your head.

OP. You are directing the hate at the wrong group. EWAs are non union Vz people filling in for you bc you all CHOSE to go on strike. So why so angry? Direct your passive aggressive comments to top execs making decisions or your union management. Everyone else is just in the middle.

Pretty funny, a friend of mine who is in management has been forced away from home since the beginning of the strike. Keep telling yourself that a day off is coming and maybe it will come true.

I know you don't want to be getting into it with the EWAs about money. They are making double their salaries (which are already bigger than yours -- significantly) and you don't have a job or benefits right now.

It's great that you're enjoying a steak right now because we all know you can't afford it. Even on your regular salary when you have a paycheck coming in you can't really afford it. But now you're either eating into your savings or being treated to it by a relative who feels sorry for you.

I don't understand some of you. Yes the EWA'ers are temporarily putting in a lot of hours -- something that anyone who works hard at their job has to do from time to times. The only people who don't put in lots of hours at one time or another are either independently wealthy or lazy asses who are out the door at 5:01 (or 4:59) each workday.

Make whatever jokes you want, but I'd stay away from jokes about money if I were you. The EWAers have it -- lots of it -- and we all know you don't.

Local EWAs get two days off now. Non local are mostly being sent home or given 3 days off now. You guys just don't get it at all... the company isn't hurting at all and the best way to get them back, since you hate vz so much is to sign the deal.
