Unions are alive and well and pretty darn powerful in Europe and everyone's better off for that fact.
With that being said, the really big and powerful ones have taken the time and resources to modernize themselves and be in step with times...
The union concept is long gone, it is an idealistic state of mind enforced just to collect dues from people like us, if anyone doubt that, look at the situation CWA /AT&T had put their members , through a precarious situation, Union inaction, the members voted 95% for a strike, instead honoring the vote, they forced everyone to keep working without a contract, you don't need crystal ball anymore, facts are right in front of us

Smart move. Mediation was extremely detrimental in 2011 from union's perspective.

You do realize that one can't legally be denied medical services due to their inability to pay? There's a sign in every ER and urgent care center advising of exactly that...
