Please explain to me how the union is against me. Please don't say because they are still getting paid. They should be getting paid because THEY are still working. Working not for Verizon but for US! So come again with some real facts as to how they are screwing us? And if you say that I'm not getting paid then please do not respond. I voted to authorize a strike if need be. 10 months of negotiations and still not much movement on what is important to our side. So yeah, we are now on strike. A strike in which we already KNEW we would be skipping paychecks a for. A strike to fight for what is right for us. So please spare me the allegations of corruption. Especially from a pigeon belonging to Verizon. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
The reason we strike is to exact that pressure you are talking about. If we work with a contract then the company can keep stonewalling and then declare an impasse, all while its business as usual. That's the problem with some people. You can't understand basic logic. Why would we not interrupt the business? That is a labor RIGHT to try and make the company move. Yes, getting a paycheck would be nice but if you do not strike, you are just giving away your best chance to make things happen. If you don't strike and the company declares impasse, which legally I believe we are still a few months away, it's like leaving survivor island with an immunity idol. Just a boneheaded move.
Verizon is not canceling health insurance for the members that cross. That is just another lie your union must be telling you.

Having said that, without the necessary legal foundation which doesn't exist right now, it's extremely unlikely to happen with any degree of success.
Actually, it is a good post, Why is it standard operating procedure, (SOP) of unions today to "order" workers, ("membership") to keep working without a contract ? Isn't a "contract", the reason for being of any union ?, for the worker, I believe it's best to continue to work without a contract, collecting a check, as long as tactics are employed to exert pressure on the company to negotiate. if it becomes working 'business-as-usual, it's a sure win for the company, It should be becoming clear to union workers throughout the US that a house cleaning is in order. Any of them paying attention can see that the union house has become thoroughly bureaucratic and the leadership is solidly aligned against their members. The telecommunications companies are highly profitable and the union leaderships have the gall to demand less pay and benefits, and act in opposition to an expressed strategy (strike) voted for overwhelmingly by their members.
Starting anew is certainly no easy task, but would appear to be necessary. Better now than later? If you agree with the position of the WSWS, the currently existing unions are way too much in the opposing camp for reform to be possible. There is a lot of evidence to support that view.

With the union sleeping at the wheel for the past 11 months, No wonder why verizon have downplayed the concerns about the impact the strike will have on the Fios rollout in the Hub, saying it would take the same time to deploy temps, and that much of the engineering is will not be done by union technicians.
