Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What is the problem with the people on this site?

Why is there so much hatred on this site towards Unions? I just dont get it unless it jealousy because you are company and dont have a pension or medical when you retire. Had the wireless Unionized in the past all employees would of had everything, full paid healthcare, pensions, company match 401ks, retirement medical and job security. You chose to believe the company in which they lied, so now you need to attack the Union employees for fighting for what THEY wanted you to have as well .because you feel stupid and regret believing the words of a company who now is sending your jobs to India...

This site was to inform each other, it was a site to bring workers together.....stop turning this into a hate site.

To be quite frank, some of the EWAs have been around for awhile and are bitter over the bad behavior of the Union and some of its members.

Let's start with Gerry Horgan, the Union Steward that jumped on the hood of a car driven by summer intern entering a Nynex location in Valhalla NY. He fell off the car and hit his head. The Union posted the incident on their website stating that Horgan was run over. This a--hole jumped on the car and an inexperienced young driver lurched forward and the dope fell off and died. It's unfortunate, but the guy caused his own death. It's improper to canonize this horse's butt. It's an insult when they wear remember Gerry Horgan t shirts.

There was also the beating by several union thugs to a EWA guy that came down a poke near the Throggs Neck Bridge in Queens NY. These people almost killed the manager and were allowed to return to work after the strike ended.

Managers don't forget what kind of people Verizon hires as field techs. Some are great, some are very troubled. Unfortunately, the bad ones are the ones that are etched in my mind. I do not trust any of you and I would never cut you a break - everything needs to be done by the book or I will get you out, grievance or not.

You guys are funny. I know of 2 posters here that are not Verizon management or union that are posting here simply to f--- around with everyone. I'm union and I don't buy that the majority of posts are by either union or ewa persons.

"As a first level, I always considered my crew to be bright, educated men who could think for themselves."

How many strikes have you been through as a first level? Unless this is your first one, you should be very well aware why people have gone out and are not coming back until all of the nonsense that we've been dealing with over the last couple of years is dead and buried for good. Things have never been this bad.

Many of us have been dying to go out since we couldn't tolerate the abuse coming from the company anymore.

Many of us will be happy to look for another job unless that changes.

compare the @dxf post to the OP's.

OP makes a good logical case, while "manager" dxf...what is he even talking about?

I'll tell you why. As a first level, I always considered my crew to be bright, educated men who could think for themselves. Now they've followed the greedy union bosses right out the door to their demise, playing right into the company's plan. I've lost all respect for them. They will let their own children go without insurance even life and disability insurance to protect their families? I don't hate them. I guess I feel stupid myself for having misjudged them as smarter people. They've lost my respect. They will say they don't care but if they ever do come back, IF, they will quickly learn what that really means.

op, I don't understand it either. I work for a company here in the U.S. that is owned by a Japanese family. The owner/CEO will only allow his annual pay to reach 50 times that of the average employee. Our company has approximately 50,000 employees worldwide and every employee has health insurance that is completely paid for, a 401k that is matched 100% for up to 20% and our average annual profit sharing check is $10,000. I can't believe how many Verizon non-union employees use this forum and say that "no one gets free healthcare or a pension anymore." I often wonder if they really believe what they are saying or are they saying it because they have settled for less. While my company is non-union, I fully support all of the union members who are standing up against a corporation that has no problems paying it's CEO more than 200 times what they are paying it's average employee. Maybe if all of you wireless employees would smarten up and unionize, then maybe you wouldn't have so much to complain about and actually get a little respect from those you work for.

"it was quite a stunner back in 2005 when the company stopped their pension contributions and they just sat there and did nothing, totally helpless."

Not quite true. Some have sued the company, but I have no clue where that went, if anywhere...

It was a sad time, though. Brain drain that VZ suffered after most of the knowledgeable old-time first and second levels ran through the door is something that was outright painful to watch, at least for me...

People are paid to come on this site and others, and bash everything Union.

I don't get it either. It's a race to the bottom I guess. Instead of trying to get their fair share, they say the union should get to the bottom right along with 'em. I applaud the union for fighting to keep good jobs and pay/equity at a decent middle class level. It's no surprise management associates think the union shouldnt get a pension anymore or have it capped...it was quite a stunner back in 2005 when the company stopped their pension contributions and they just sat there and did nothing, totally helpless.

@HaQJDmh , Insightful. It is mind boggling why workers don't stick together . You hit the nail on the head, common sense and logic.
