Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

ATT disagrees with Equal access, times are changing ...

Net neutrality means more money in our pockets, Internet service providers or broadband carriers treat all data that travels over their networks in exactly the same way, much like our telephone service and power are regulated. It’s the way the Internet has worked since its inception and we know how the Internet has transformed our lives in nearly everything we do. It’s also spawned innovation and many new companies to create products and services we never imagined.

But for many years, there has been an effort to change all this, led by AT&T, they wanted to offer different classes of Internet services, one that provides faster speeds and better access to those websites that pay, and a slower access speed for those that don't want to pay.

It was a way to limit competition to generate more revenue, but it would also mean that the bigger companies that could pay more for faster service would receive preferential treatment for their content, compared to smaller startup companies that could not afford to pay.

Opposition came from the major technology companies such as Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Netflix. The Internet Association, the organization representing nearly 40 tech companies, including those above, also filed a formal petition in opposition. They want companies to compete by being able to attract customers based on their products and services, not on speed of access.

AT&T won't let the latest court ruling go unchallenged. let them pay for lawyers and all the BS PR, unlikely to succeed. Next, they are expected them to appeal to the Supreme Court, but they would fail there as well, after that Randall probably will layoff more of us.

Anyone arguing against Net Neutrality simply has no idea of how it works. Without Net Neutrality, carriers wouldn't prioritize emergency data unless they were paid to do so. Under the current Neutrality friendly laws, the federal government can mandate emergency data will get priority treatment if they so decide.

If companies like AT&T behaived ethically to their employees and customers, then government intervention will not be necessary. I think AT&T pissed off so many employees and customers over the years which is triggering Government involvement. AT&T did this to themselves.

I think Is a good thing that someone is Checking on companies like ATT, they changed the terms of my contract, via text mail, that is the kind of behaviour in absence of a regulatory body, I welcome government regulation,

one problem that I see in the automated cars industry with net nuetrality, I'd hate to be riding along and then all of a sudden your connection starts buffering. with net nuetrality you cannot prioritize critical data or divert data so that the critical data makes it on time. Or maybe a wireless fire alarm never gets through because data traffic is congested , carriers should be able to prioritize data expecially when it has to do with safety .

AT&T has a history like no other company of treating their customers really bad, there is no privacy in the way your data is managed, if the justice dept wants it, come and take it,!! unlike other great companies that have challenge the government, like APPLE

when you get laid off because ATT and others get their way and the support is overseas , you will realize keeping the big guys in control is needed.

AT&T, Verizon, T Mobile and other ISPs are not government owned organizations first of all thus how can they be treated as public utility. Second, why does the government charge people a toll to go on certain lanes on our highways if we want to go faster, like we have is Seattle. isn't that discrimitory practices showing favortitism to those that can pay. We need to see both sides here.
