Been with the company almost 4 years. Not at the bottom of the list but nowhere near the top either. I am the only worker feeding a family of 6. What are the options outside the company for a Prem tech? I need a backup plan because the writing is on the wall. We've heard August 1 is a big date circled on upper levels calendar.

The people in CA and Texas working for Verizon said the same thing. Frontier does have a nice pot to work from. They picked up a lot of assets to use for further deals including purchasing Dish Network so don't think your comments on Frontier is correct. did you ever go to a bank to buy a home? The bank looks at your collateral. Guess what Frontier will use.

Read financial statements and you'll see the free cash flow. And I know why Buffet sold his stake. He never had, nor wanted T shares. He prefers large growth stocks. T is not a growth stock. He did have DTV stock though and when T bought them his stock was converted to T shares. As mentioned above, T doesn't fit his profile, so he sold it.
AT&T is hardly drowning in cash, but in debt. Read some financial articles and you'll get a clear view why investors are sweating and why Buffet sold his stake in the company.

A Prem tech is the same as a wire tech. Installing Internet, uverse tv, and now directv. I didn't even think about getting sold off. We've been low on work around here for a solid year now. They loaned us out to Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri last summer to keep us busy. Not happening this year though.
One suggestion is to simply keep your options open but don't jump to another job unless you are told your definitely on the layoff list. The possibility of the Midwest being sold like Connecticut was is very high and if that happens then as in other states sold to Frontier , all the prem techs were moved to the new company. ATT does not want any wire line and it's only a matter of time before they do dump the MW. Verizon is doing the same thing with their states and Frontier picked up the people doing wireline.
What is Prem tech?
Yeah, it's all a little scary. They've been asking for off load volunteers every morning. Lately it's been 10-15. The sad thing is, they usually get the off load they're looking for. I cannot fathom voluntarily going home unpaid if there isn't an emergency. Hardly any of these kids are working 35 hour weeks. When I first started, I was lucky if was home to tuck the kids in. It's just bad all around
Same here, I was surplus 5 times in 10 years, and I was not a junior Tech. Your title is much more unprotected in every way, surplus time is almost here. Again, and let's hope no one bumps you, time to move on, it will only get worse
How fortunate you are to have a full house! I was a female tech for three decades at ATT and managed to keep alive through FOUR surplusses between the years of 1990 and 2015. The last one had me moving 200 miles away from home and family to continue paying the tuition for my kids and give my pension that last boost. Those layoffs were the least of the indignities, but we all know the Devil's deal we make to work here. It is my opinion, formed through experience, that you will never achieve employment peace in this company. It is time for us all to embrace our options beyond ATT. SOOOOO MANY OPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is time for all family hands on deck to help. Even the smallest, if it is only for a smile to help remind the others of the beauty in life. Build your plan and stick to it.
