Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Winning!! I think not

Profit sharing of $700 x 4 years = $2800 and now folks have a added reason to not want the stock prices to fall. And/or do anything to effect their stock negatively. Smart move by the company. Throw money at the problem and it will go away. And it did.

11% pay increase over 4 years. My EWA raise this year was 6%. If I continue on for 4 years at the same rate = 24% increase for non union versus under 11 for union.

Opps. Shouldn't have brought the raise bit up since 'it isn't about the money''.

Medical increases but we are going to give you $250 one time.

65 wireless workers unionized and we can only assume their work ethic, work product and productivity will decrease now.

Job security for three years. Yippee. On the 1096th day then what?

No QARs in NYC. Will be replaced with something equal I'm sure. Everyone else still gets them though. Yay NYC though. What's good for one is good for all....oh wait....

And the rest of the contract we will work out later guys (wink wink). But don't pay any attention to that because I am going to throw you $1000 if you hurry up and ratify. In essence you were bought. For $22 a day which is the one k divided by the 45 days of the strike. You were bought by Vz and sold by the union.

Exactly how is this winning.

Verizon got what it wanted. They wanted to be able to offer packages to get rid of members that are below par or are senior and expensive. They wanted to reduce healthcare cost. They wanted some worker flexibility, especially in the call centers, where the workforce is less technical and can be more readily replaced. Those are long term plans to get the workforce to be more competitive. The short term pain of a small yearly raise is more than covered, along with the addition of a few more employees. Good public relations move to add American jobs.

Can someone explain why 2.5% is considered a win? I have been with the non Union side for over 10 years and never seen a raise that small. Is seems if this is considered a fair raise, there must be a lot of deadweight holding down the success of the good employees. Just saying

@ryy Shouldn't you be reporting to your job today instead of posting on this blog. Yes you won. Goodbye!

@1ym Yep. This was only ever about keeping the CWA dinosaur alive. They screwed their members, but their members are too dumb to see it.

Hell the First noon admitted on the call last night that the "raises" were to cover the increased medical costs. That tells me the costs will be more than the raises. Plus they are things to be decided after ratification. I think it was a wash. Not as great for the Union as people are saying but VZ "looks" like they caved.

Read the fine print jerkoff. You pay more in medical , you have no job security. You may not be there in 2 yrs so your projected raise is meaningless. The QAR process is gone, never to return. Do you ignore everything you read? This was a blow to management. Many went back with their tales between their legs. You got a pat on the back for filling in. Did you really think they were tell you anything other than "good job"? Its over, The Union Won.
