For the record I am actually a manager that used to be CWA. Just a fair warning there is NO 72 hour window. Unless there are verified unusual circumstances then you need to be at work or it will be labeled as abandoning your job. Don't let anyone fool you. I know there are lots of people who want to read the entire contract before returning to work but don't put yourself in a bad position. Come back to work and communicate with your manager.

OP is 1000% correct , please don't F-Around and lose your job by listening to people at the local bar . You don't show up, it is considered a resignation. Any Supervisor who says different (and tells you not to show up) just wants to be able to add your name to his Performance Agreement as a "Cost-Saving"
Friendly mgmt here. No 72 hours, unless unusual circumstances are approved. The poster that said job abandonment is correct!!!
I heard that we do have 72 hours for RTW.
Called my manager, was approved for the 72. Pretty simple.
Maybe NE is different? IBEW, at least my steward told me it was okay, with boss' permission. Which I got.
Time to go back and get the customers back in service and start doing some installs 7 days a week 12 hour days
