What about QARs?

Are QARs completely gone? I only saw they were gone for NYC!

the five boroughs are Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. There are other areas in NY besides these. They just can't get rid of QAR's there but that is what the contract says.

"Meanwhile, good techs out there that bust their a$$ every day somehow are never ensnared in this process, because they are not scumbags."

Says who? Several of my shop's "top producers" got QAR'd and suspended for sheer nonsense. We had first and second level managers with 25-30 years quit rather than suspend and/or fire people for no good reason.

Go to sleep and don't bother waking up. No one will miss you.

Lol. Let me translate. A QAR made it much harder for the scumbag employee (note:not all are scumbags, not even most, but there are plenty out there) to fraudulently waste paid company time. As the scumbag could not change his ways even with "The Man" watching, discipline took place as the company attempted to make sure employees were actually doing the job they are paid well for. Rather than accept that countless years of defrauding the company was over, these employees slowed down even more in protest, because it's not fair to no longer be able to defraud the company. Any performance!Eric will always be fought as unfair with these guys as they claim! The company is just out to get them. Meanwhile, good techs out there that bust their a$$ every day somehow are never ensnared in this process, because they are not scumbags.

"QAR's gone in only the five boroughs???"

I would make a point of asking your local union leadership that question. It would make absolutely zero sense to kill these in NY but leave them intact elsewhere.

While I don't have an answer, I'll offer an opinion - my possibly worthless two cents - nevertheless...

The only reason why 1101 made sure that the QAR removal was posted as one of the strike gains was the amount of heat that they've taken over this practice ever since it was first implemented. I can't possibly state how bad things were in NJ or PA when it came to the QARs, but NY - where Beasley was sent to crack the largest union membership on VZ's East Coast footprint - was nothing short of hell on wheels. He failed miserably in his task, but have gotten a ton of people really, really pi$$ed. Not to mention that the numbers went down the toilet.

We kept reinforcing that we want these gone in every single communication with our local leadership. And gone for good. And in writing. Over and over again. Whichever topic was brought up, it ended up being a discussion on how to get rid of the QARs and what the union was doing about it. Boring and repetitious, but absolutely necessary. We've seen more 30-day suspensions - along with a few firings - in the last year than I've witnessed over my entire career.

Our locals have seen several coups since the last strike. The folks at the top of 1101 know all too well that we'll vote them out just as fast as we voted them in. In a NY minute, as they say.

That's why they made sure that the info was included and posted. Signed, sealed, delivered.

I hope that everyone who was suspended or fired by these illegal practices is eventually made whole, and that no one is ever subjected to them again, regardless of their work location or union that represents them.

Got it, thanks for explaining. Yes, that is a bunch of Mico mgmt crap that would not make for a positive work environment. No different than if the exec who implemented it had to provide that same level of detail and go through that same process daily with someone asking him what he did all day with timelines. I get it when u have a problem child who u know is always bucking the system, u need to find a way to document it...but group punishment for a few bad apples is not effective (ask the nazi's how that philosophy worked for them in WW2). It was effective for them, but everyone else hated them for it.

So what exactly is a QAR? How does it work, what happens, etc...?

QAR is an outright interrogation disguised as a question/answer session over the events of one's day or a particular work order. Almost always leads to a suspension as they laundry-list perceived (or made up) incongruities in your replied to your manager in relation to the company code of conduct.

They ask you what you did between 9:00-9:30 am for example and if you forgot to call or text your boss that you stopped to do something as innocuous as to urinate for example, you will then be informed that the GPS report indicated you had stopped for 7 minutes at 102 Main St (random example) and didn't notify your boss.

They usually last for an hour or more with a union rep taking notes and another manager taking notes for the manager doing the interrogating.

It created a very hostile environment, which many in the current 1st level management team seem to enjoy and thrive on.

They have QARs in PA & NJ.

"The QAR process is highly unproductive and hurts the morale of not just the union members, but the first and second level management as well."

I could care less about the morale of the first and second levels. They're reprehensible & despicable human beings. All the quality managers have been pushed out or are long gone.

"It is already known internally that the QAR procedure is neither effective or efficient, and it already has been a litigous issue for VZ. "

Yet they kept the system in place, despite this all this and encouraged it. Doesn't say much for the culture, ethics and priorities of the company.

From what I understand, the QARs we're a Jay Beasley implementation. I don't know if NJ (where he started this nonesense) still do QARs. If so, I would imagine they will stop sometime soon after the contract is voted upon. The QAR process is highly unproductive and hurts the morale of not just the union members, but the first and second level management as well. There has been numerous internal and external complaints filed regarding this program.

As much as many view VZ as an evil entity, they are like every other large corp. They want to make money, and be efficient while shielding themselves from bad PR and legal issues. It is already known internally that the QAR procedure is neither effective or efficient, and it already has been a litigous issue for VZ. As soon as it seems the corporate culture has changed (removal of Beasley) the QARs will cease.

Everyone said they were gone. Didn't believe it, but saw it posted, at least just in New York City.

They'll replace it with something similar and get away with. You know the rest.
