i don't understand why the union is so afraid to pony up their strike fund as collateral, get a loan, and purchase wireline themselves.... it's soooooooooooooooooooooooo profitable, noone could possibly lose on that deal.

@nwa ... thanks for the info. I was curious in the respect that if our contract is similar to the Frontier contract then Frontier may well be a suitor for the VZ wireline business.

I think most of us are well aware of the money lost by not deploying DSL from the start in all areas and by not building out FIOS as well. We gave thousands of customers away to the cable companies because the company was intent on killing copper and promoting competition in order to reduce regulation. There is a ton of money to be made in the Wireline side but the investor needs to understand that Wireline should be considered a steady blue-chip stock that pays the same dividend every time and is not a 'growth stock'.

"Any idea how close this contract is with the latest contract that CWA has with Frontier?"

It's difficult to compare on an "apple to apple" basis since the territories involved are quite different, with the exception of PA where both VZ and Frontier are present as ILECs. And these two contracts are very close. A dollar here and a perk over there, it's pretty much six of one and half a dozen of the other.

It seems that NY has kept most of its exceptional contract provisions. I guess that the local leaders were scared of being not voted out of the office - which happened in quite a few places in 2011/12 - but of being outright impaled had they allowed Article 8 to be flushed down the toilet...

Wireline makes money you dope. It's run by incompetent and inefficient buffoons who want no part of it, don't want to even try, not to mention FiOS in a superior product that everyone in the world wants.

Oh, and 5g won't work. Good luck with that VZW cupcakes.

Wireless makes all the money and has all the growth. Spin off wireline and it drops like a stone.

"A better option would be to spin off wireline to be separate from wireless."

Hooray! And change their name back to Vodafone. After all, they seem to like spending millions to change their name, logo, colors, etc. every couple of years.

want nothing to do with wireless and their horrible culture and bad karma.

We will not get sold. Nobody can afford it. Period! Only one who can is Google and they don't want to buy the copper plant because it's still considered a utility and is in piss poor shape. We will be with Verizon for the foreseeable future. A better option would be to spin off wireline to be separate from wireless. Then we can be our own company

Pretty much the way I see it also. This kind of give in probably means a possible suitor is OK with the contract or, the company is about to spin off the Wireline copper and Fios while keeping Transport and fiber to the cell fibers and equipment.

Any idea how close this contract is with the latest contract that CWA has with Frontier?

Only holdup will be finding someone who can scrape together 50-75 billion to buy it. Oh yea, and they don't want to sell it cause it still makes money.
